The largest public collection of model cars in Wales, 10.000-plus and growing!

The original Cloverlands collection was built up over a
sixty year period,by a motoring enthusiast and model maker Miss Gillian Rogers.She drove a Singer Le Mans for forty years to racing events in Europe and also attended meetings at Brooklands and Goodwood. She was also a motoring writer and self published a delightful personal motoring history entitled
'Driving Through The Decades Sadly she passed away in December 2021, and did not see her unique legacy moved to Llanfair Caereinion
The collection forms part of Connections, another part of which is the railway memorabilia exhibition charting the history of the splendidly named The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway Preservation Co. Ltd , shortened to W.L.L.R (www.wllr.org.uk)
The line closed in 1956, but was revived by a group of narrow gauge railway enthusiasts and reopened in 1982.Trains run almost all the tear round see website for timetables. There is plenty of parking and the charming little town centre is reached by a ten minute riverside walk.

Our Chair today had a busy day as a judge at the Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition, a show that is on until Sunday. Now while model engineering is dominated by steam engines of various types it is a very wide-ranging hobby and of particular interest to Cloverlands fans will be this remarkable 40% scale model of a 1927 Delage GP car. You can see its size by the enthusiast studying it - the detail is already amazing, it will be some model when it’s complete.

If you want to visit the museum this year you are running out of time! There are just three weekends and half-term week left until we close for the winter. We are open Saturday and Sunday between 10.30 and 3.30.

These three models will shortly be moving somewhere more prominent in the museum! They are all cars driven over the years by our local motorsport superstar Elfyn Evans and we will setting up a small celebration of his maiden World Championship success, achieved in such dramatic circumstances last weekend. And of course once it becomes available we will have to add a model of his title-winning Toyota…

The museum will be open on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, between 10.30 and 3.30. Perhaps we might see you?

IMPORTANT NOTE: Unfortunately due to a lack of available volunteers it looks as if we won't be able to open this Sunday, 4th October. We will be open Saturday, 3rd October between 10.30 am and 3.30pm.

Our apologies if this inconveniences any potential visitors - we are hoping to add to our volunteer team to enable us to expand our opening dates in future.

A rare and rather special model is the latest addition to our Wall of Formula One – a six-wheeler but rather less known than the famous Tyrrell P34.

F1 team March Engineering built this car, with four driven wheels at the back and in theory offering much greater traction, at the start of 1977, but it never raced. The theory was not disproven – drivers who tested the car described its traction as phenomenal, but the cash-strapped team did not have the money to develop it and the idea was abandoned.

The museum now has all three of the F1 six-wheelers, although the Williams example, built in 1981 in the same format as the March and also never raced, is a kit in the queue for building by our Chairman.

Interestingly the March links our museum with our hosts the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway – designer Robin Herd dubbed it the March 2-4-0, a notation used to describe the wheel arrangement of steam locomotives.

You can see the March and the rest of our collection when we open next on Saturday 3rd October between 10.30 and 3.30. We are just confirming whether we will be open on Sunday this week, check back on this page for more.

Our Chair is a big fan of model dioramas, such as this, a small part of the superb ‘Transport Museum’ which was recently displayed at the Gala of our hosts the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway. We don’t have any dioramas in the museum at present but some are planned for our future expansion.
There is plenty to see in the current museum, which with 10,000-plus models we think is probably now the largest public collection in the UK (if you know different please let us know!). Why not see for yourself? We are open Saturday and Sunday this weekend from around 10.30.

Andrew our Chair is not in the museum today because he’s in Sussex at The Goodwood Revival - but he still has managed to find some miniature cars! It would be great to have a couple like these on the stand in the museum but we would need a bigger museum!

While Andrew has fun down south fellow trustee Ian will be welcoming visitors to the museum between 10.30 and 3pm. Not long now until the end of the season, don’t miss an opportunity to visit!

Days in the museum can always bring surprises. A very nice man called Tom Johnson arrived today with this remarkable model Mercedes for us. It’s a model the like of which we’ve never seen before, apparently originally designed for children to sit on and ride!
We are open all this weekend as part of the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway Steam and Diesel Gala. Lots to see, why not pay us a visit?

It’s the big enthusiast event of the year at our hosts this weekend, and the museum will be playing a full role. We will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday between around 9.30 and 5 - why not come and visit us among all the other attractions?

We have a small display of commercial vehicles in the current museum but much more is to come! We have a significantly larger collection in storage ready for when we expand into a third room, work we provisionally hope to get underway over the winter ready for the 2027 season - if any enthusiasts would like to get involved you would be made very welcome!

It’s bank holiday weekend and the museum will be open all three days. The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway will be running and its tearoom serving hot and cold delights - why not have a bank holiday day out to mid Wales?
