FreeMasonary has been established in Wells since 1785 when the first lodge was formed, In 1837 the Swan Lodge of benevolence came into existence followed by the Lodge of Benevolence and finally Benevolent Lodge as we are now known and we still meet regularly to this day. We have moved around Wells from various locations such as the Swan Hotel, City Council Chambers, the Cathedral and most recently Wells and Mendip Museum where we currently meet. We are Benevolent Lodge No 446.
