City of Wells Almshouses The City of Wells Almshouses is a registered charity which owns and manages 33 almshouses in Wells, Somerset. Includes a chapel and a guildroom.

The almshouses are located off Priest Row, near St Cuthbert's church in Wells. Milestones

2014 - City of Wells Almshouses Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) created to administer the City of Wells Almshouses unincorporated trust

2005 - Harpers Almshouse sold. Now privately owned.

2004 - The six almshouses in Wells now all owned and managed by the City of Wells Almshouses trust. Victoria

n period - Major restoration of the almshouses.

1779 - Town Hall built in Wells. Guildroom at Bubwith is no longer needed by City Councillors.

1777 - Willes almshouse built with a legacy from Bishop Edward Willes. Bishop Willes was a code breaker for King George II.

1638 - Llewellyn's almshouse built from a legacy left by Henry Llewellyn an alderman of the City.

1637 - Bricks almshouse built with a legacy from Walter Brick, a burgess and draper of the City.

1614 - Stills almshouse built with a legacy from Bishop John Still, a former Bishop of Bath and Wells.

1436 - Bubwith almshouse built from a legacy left by the former Bishop of Bath & Wells and Treasurer to King Henry IV.

The City of Wells Almshouses is looking for a super-organised, friendly administrator to support our Chief Executive and trustees.
What you’ll do:
✔ Keep meetings running smoothly
✔ Maintain records & policies
✔ Support finance admin (incl. Xero)
✔ Update our website/socials
✔ Help residents with housing payments and benefits
What you’ll bring:
✨ Strong admin & IT skills
✨ Great communication
✨ A calm, helpful attitude

Just a reminder, we are open tomorrow from 11am until 4 pm for Heritage Open Day. The Simply Uke! Ukelele band will be playing from 1 - 2 pm, and the communal areas and gardens will be open, with a walking guide available to inform visitors of the history. We will not be serving refreshments this year.
