We are delighted to share that our CEO, Kathryn Soares, was nominated by the Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire to attend this year’s Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. πŸŒΏπŸ‘‘

Kathryn has been at the heart of Nene Rivers Trust’s journey for many years, helping to grow the Trust from its early days into the ambitious, impactful organisation it is today. Her passion for environmental change has touched countless projects, partnerships and communities across Northamptonshire.

While Kathryn would be the first to say that this recognition reflects the collective efforts of our fantastic team, volunteers, partners and supporters, we are immensely proud to see her commitment and leadership acknowledged in such a special way. πŸ’™

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire for this incredibly kind nomination and for recognising the importance of protecting and celebrating our natural environment.

We had such a wonderful day with East Mercia Rivers Trust this week β€” catching up, sharing ideas, and celebrating the power of partnership 🀝🌿

Collaboration allows us to share knowledge, support bigger and better projects, and create a lasting positive impact for our rivers, wildlife, and local people. Teamwork really does make the dream work πŸ’™

We're already looking forward to the next one!

What are you up to Lee.....

Our Project officer spends many hours out in the field working on landowner engagement, site assessments, data collection, supervising the delivery of projects and of course enjoying the weather as well.

Over the past few years and .northants have been monitoring the flow and depth of the Harpers brook in and around Brigstock village.

Monitoring is sometimes overlooked but is a vital part of the flood mitigation process, data needs to be collected before and after installation of natural flood management features to study the effects of the project.

The data that this and other projects collect can demonstrate the positive impacts that natural flood management has on our water course and communities.

With sharing data across organizations/authorities we can enhance our impact for the future.

MAKE RIVER TIME 🏞️

Our engagement officer has been out teaching the students about the S.P.As (Specially Protected Areas) in Northamptonshire.

These protected areas are vitally important for migrating birds and Ryan has been giving advice on how we can better protect these sites, through presentation and an amazing activity called MAKE A RIVER.

The activity gives participants the chance to build their own river and see where they think you would place certain features along the watercourse.

It's a great learning activity, where making a mistake is definitely not a bad thing.

It was such a pleasure to be out and about at the North Northants Heritage Fair at Wicksteed Park this Sunday! 🌿

Ryan and Roxanne (the River Van) spent the day chatting with visitors about our rivers, wildlife, and the power of citizen science, with aid from Roxanne's SandLab!

It was brilliant to engage with all 150 of youβ€”sharing knowledge, answering questions, and inspiring action for cleaner, healthier rivers.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello and learn more about the work we do. Every conversation makes a difference! πŸ’§

Doing something a little bit Different!!!

We had an amazing day yesterday at one of Northamptonshirs Specially protected sites with the students carrying out:
- Species identification 🦟
- BIG RIVER WATCH 🌊
- Water quality surveying πŸ’§
- Bird watching πŸ•ŠοΈ
- Tour of the S.P.A site. πŸ”

Together we grow and supporting the youth is the source of our goal, to improve our environment.

πŸ’§ Join the Big River Watch (24–30 April) πŸ’§

It's that time of year again! We are inviting YOU to become a citizen scientist and help protect our rivers 🌿

By taking just 15 minutes from your day to observe your local river or stream, you can help uncover real issues like unseen pollution and barriers affecting local species 🐟

Upload what you see (wildlife, pollution, river conditions) to the FREE Big River Watch app - that's it! No experience needed. Just your time, your eyes, and your love for rivers πŸ’™

πŸ“ŠSince 2023, over 22,000 people have taken part - and their observations feed into live data used to drive real action and improve river health. By working together, we can better protect the Nene and ensure it's health for us and for future generations 🌊

πŸ‘‰ Take part anytime, anywhere, as many times as you like during the week.

Tomorrow is International Mother Earth Day πŸŒπŸ’š

It’s a moment to reflect on the incredible natural world around us β€” and the role we all play in protecting it.

Our rivers are at the heart of this. They support wildlife, connect communities, and shape the landscapes we cherish. At Nene Rivers Trust, we’re always working to restore and protect these vital ecosystems, but lasting change depends on all of us.

This Mother Earth Day, take a moment to appreciate your environment β€” and consider how you can help care for it. Whether it’s small everyday actions or getting involved in hands-on conservation, it all adds up.

Together, we can keep our rivers and our planet healthy, resilient, and full of life for generations to come πŸ’§
