What a change in response that is - considering over email they said there was nothing to investigate! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Concerns have been raised to the welfare of horses in Rushden.

We are flabbergasted at how some people deem the horses on Northampton Road are adequately cared for.

How, in this day and age, can a person be deemed fit to care for horses when they leave a deceased one in a shetler for over a month? That alone is damning, let alone the constant escapes.

𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟 𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗙𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗔𝗖𝗧 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟲

Upon reading some comments, we strongly disagree that the horses on Northampton Road are adequately cared for and not in need of intervention. Our reasons are -

𝗘𝗡𝗩𝗜𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧
The horses are constantly subjected to poor quality fencing/gateways, meaning they easily access the roads and dual-carriageways.
They have been subjected to sharing a field with a deceased horse for 2 months.

𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗧
The horses do not receive enough hay for all of them, nor do they have enough grass. There is no evidence of hay being provided at appropriate timings before our posts.
Horses are grazing animals, meaning they are in need of constant access to grass and/or hay. Their continuous escapes are them telling us they are hungry.

𝗕𝗘𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗢𝗨𝗥
Lack of access to grazing is depriving the horses of the natural behaviour that is grazing.

𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡
They have been subjected to sharing their ‘safe’ area with a co**se. That is putting them at risk of disease, health issues and distress.
We believe the horse that was deceased had been gated into the field shelter and not fed for a considerable amount of time and then, subsequently, starved.
They are not being protected - they are able to escape and have done numerous times near the A45 dual carriageway.

We are in need of -

❗️ 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 British Horse Society?

We need it 𝗔𝗟𝗟. What may seem 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 or 𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁 may be the 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Let’s get this sorted before another horse (or human) dies.

When a horse hasn’t got adequate grazing, it can lead to a number of health issues such as -
- Ulcers
- Colic
- Anxiety
- Nutritional Deficiency
- Muscle Issues

The fact the RSPCA do not see the issue here is beyond disturbing.

We emailed the Chief Inpector for Northamptonshire RSPCA this morning and have received a half-arsed, generic response.

We won’t stop. We will continue.

We have been sent a new image that show a deceased horse that has been laying in the shelter for OVER A MONTH!

We need PRESSURE ADDING to the RSPCA. We need Northampton Chronicle. We need Northants Telegraph. We need BBC Northamptonshire.

‼️UPDATE 2‼️
The dead horse has been removed - however, NINE horses remain on the land.

There is no grass. There is no hay. There is nothing.

Unfortunately, even after all these years of us reporting the horses on the Northampton Road in Rushden, it has taken five years and one to have passed away for something to be done. We are appalled.

The horse’s body has been left for at least a day before being discovered. They have no hay, water or grazing for the number of horses kept in this field - and this is not the first time this has happened. Please see attached images taken in 2020.

Please report this - it needs to stop.
