GAGA - Goodwill & Growth for Africa

GAGA - Goodwill & Growth for Africa We're a UK-based charity supporting education and healthcare initiatives in Southern Africa.

We've been working with projects in rural South Africa since 2002, we've seen small children grow into young adults and achieve amazing success in academic and vocational study in that time. We've seen how partner projects have developed in that time, impacting more lives in their community and supporting people to manage their health, care for their family and access education and job opportuniti

es. Recently we've seen how those projects have risen to the challenge presented by Covid-19, how our scholarship students have continued to access their study material against all the odds and how our loyal supporters have stood by the project staff and beneficiaries in this extraordinary time.

In 1989 this community centre started as a feeding programme for those in need in the Valley of 1000 Hills, where meals were served from the back of a ball underneath an acacia tree. Over the years it has grown into a bustling and vibrant community centre, humming with the activity of its Preschool and Crèche, Primary Healthcare Clinic, Kitchen, Skills Development Centre, Garden Project and Community Outreach Programme. We are so fortunate and proud to continue to support 1000 Hills Community Helpers in providing lifelines to a vulnerable community. Thank you to .co.za for this stunning shot of the 1000 Hills Community Helpers campus in Inchanga, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Today we’re shining a spotlight on Mandla, one of our hardworking Sangobeg Scholars.
This is Mandla, who is just finishing up a two year course in IT Engineering and Computer Sciences. The first year of his course was focused on networks and learning the basics, and this year he’s learning coding and building websites. Mandla says he finds the course challenging but interesting. The majority of his course work this year has focused on a module called Programming. He goes to classes every other week, and during the weeks that he isn’t going to classes he is doing assignments at home. For example, this week his assignment is to create a website for a client. The professor created a scenario and Mandla and his classmates are expected to build a website based on the provided requirements.

At the end of the year he’ll finish studying and we’re deeply proud of what a long way he’s come from 2023 when we ran a Crowdfunder to help him finish his matric (high school). He has worked so hard, and now all his hard work will pay off to earn him his degree! Well done Mandla!
