Covid certainly put a damper on social activities and Lodge functions were no exception. It has taken time but Alfred & Guthrum Lodge are slowly getting back to some semblance of normality. This year is our Centenary Year and we are doing our best to ensure that it is a year to remember!
The latest outing was organised by W.Bro. Wayne H. A small group of masons, wives and friends descended on The Bason Bridge Brewery on Friday 10th May. Wayne had organised a tour of the brewery and a b**r tasting session at “The B**r Shed”.
It’s a small brewery so even with the many questions and the smelling of the hops and the malt we had plenty of time to test the b**rs. The fact that the weather was so kind to us really did help the evening along; that and the fact that there were several designated drivers which meant most of us could enjoy a pint or two! I know the Bridge Stout was very popular with the “lads” and the Copper Ale was a clear favourite with the majority of the ladies.
I had absolutely no clue that the place existed, and I think that most of us could say the same thing. However we were in the minority as it certainly filled up quickly in there. Not really surprising, the b**r was fantastic and they also have a selection of other drinks including c***r from Rich’s C***r (just up the road).
It’s not just about b**r though…they have a “Food Shed” on site serving pizzas and burgers and ice cream (though I’m sure not all on the same plate).
We are hoping to organise a return visit, purely for scientific reasons of course!
