What do young people love about where they live?

We recently spent time listening to young people at Wayland Academy as they shared what they like about their communities in Watton and the surrounding villages.

They told us how much they value being close to friends and family, having friendly people around them and feeling part of their community. They also spoke about enjoying the outdoors, from walks and open fields to parks and the skate park, as well as local sports clubs, events, cafés and shops.

It was great to hear about the little things that make a difference to them, from having places to spend time with friends to enjoying the quieter, greener surroundings.

Hearing directly from young people helps us understand what matters to them and what they want for the places they call home.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of visiting Wayland Academy with the Flourish team and spoke with some truly incredible young people!

We wanted to hear directly from them about what they love about their community, what they’d like to see more of, what worries them, and what they think could make Watton an even better place to live, work and grow up.

And wow, did they have ideas!

The young people were so open, honest and enthusiastic about sharing their thoughts, it was brilliant to hear just how much they care about their community and its future.

It’s so important that young people feel heard and have a say in shaping the place they call home. They’re a huge part of Watton’s future, and their voices deserve to be part of the conversation.

A massive thank you to everyone at Wayland Academy and to all the young people who took part, you have certainly given us lots to think about, and we’re excited to see what we can do together!

Stay tuned! We’ll be sharing some of the young people’s ideas with you soon. And who knows, there might be something that you, your business or your organisation could help make happen! Something as simple as, offering support, sharing skills, providing a space or helping bring an idea to life, there could be a way for you to get involved.

Last night we had a wonderful time attending Wayland Academy's production of Aladdin. The children were fantastic and put on a truly entertaining show. A huge well done to everyone involved for all of your hard work and talent, we had a great evening, and it was lovely to see the children and young people flourishing! 🟣
