Some of the most telling moments of our work this winter haven’t happened in warehouses or boardrooms. They’ve happened when plans fall apart, conditions are extreme, and people simply find another way to keep going.
In –15°C conditions, with power available for just one hour a day, ongoing missile attacks, and a 44-ton truck stuck fast on ice, the aid still didn’t stop.
With no forklift available, the truck was unloaded by hand.
Fifteen people worked for over four hours in the cold, digging it out and getting vital supplies moving.
This is the reality of our work. Not smooth or predictable, but shaped by constant obstacles, and by people who care enough to work around them. Because the focus is always on the people waiting for support, and on making sure the aid reaches them, whatever it takes.
Our winter response supports people both here in the UK and overseas. Ukraine has been part of that work for over a decade, and as conditions have become more challenging, the need for flexibility, trust and determination on the ground has only grown.
We’re proud to work alongside partners like Driving Aid To Ukraine, helping ensure essential aid continues to reach people, whatever it takes.
