A new coalition of residents and local organisations is seeking funding to fight a planning application on Oxhey Lane.

The group is named Help Save Our Green Belt – SW Herts Coalition. It was formed in response to an application by Burlington Developments London to construct 256 properties

They plan to contract an expert planning barrister and independent expert witnesses. To support this, they have set a fundraising target of £75,000 and are asking residents to consider contributing.

If you would like to donate, you can find out more on our website. The link is in the comments.

The 2026 OVEG Summer Fayre will take place on Saturday 13 June… and we need your help.

To make the day a great success, we need as many boots on the ground as possible, and we’re completely reliant on the tremendous support of our volunteers.

We need more volunteers for the 2026 fayre and we’d love your support!

Some of the ways you can volunteer include:
🔹Event set up (assembling gazebos, tables, fencing, and preparing the tombola and raffle)
🔹Managing OVEG activities and stalls, such as the bouncy castle, tombola, raffle tickets, and dog show tickets
🔹Putting everything away once the fayre has wrapped up

Volunteering with OVEG is a great way to meet new people while giving back to the community. Some of our younger residents volunteer as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award activities.

If you, or someone you know, can spare some time to help we would be hugely grateful. Please contact [email protected]

An article in the Watford Observer looks back on Oxhey Village Environment Group’s ‘Recipe and Household Hints’ book, which was published in 1983.

The book collated 66 recipes and useful household tips, most of which were gathered from OVEG members and their friends. It was created to raise funds at a time when the group was still less than 10 years old.

The Observer’s article is written Lesley Dunlop, a regular writer on Watford’s local history, and herself a former member of the OVEG committee.

You can read more about OVEG’s recipe book in Lesley’s article.
