A huge thank you to the amazing team from Lloyds Banking Group for spending the day volunteering with Watford Mencap! 💙🌿

The team got stuck into all sorts of tasks across the day, including clearing out our summer house, helping count foreign currency donations, and supporting with gardening and outdoor jobs to help keep our spaces looking their best.

A couple of members of the team gave their thoughts about volunteering and what they got out of it.

Your hard work, enthusiasm and teamwork made a real difference, and we’re so grateful for your support. Thank you for giving your time to help our community! 🌟

Our team recently took part in specialist dementia training, developed in conjunction with people with learning disabilities, exploring how dementia can affect people with learning disabilities and how we can provide the best possible support.

The session covered:
✅ Understanding dementia and its symptoms
✅ Why people with learning disabilities may face different risks and experiences
✅ The importance of baseline assessments and early identification
✅ Positive, person-centred approaches to support
✅ Non-drug interventions and environmental adaptations
✅ Real-life case studies, research and practical tools to improve outcomes

Through discussions, videos, and shared learning, we explored how organisations can develop effective approaches that help people with learning disabilities live well with dementia for as long as possible.

This training has been generously funded by a grant from Hertfordshire County Council’s Community & People Wellbeing team.

At Watford Mencap, we are committed to continually developing our knowledge and skills to ensure we provide the highest quality support to the people and families we work with. 💙

This Volunteers’ Week, we want to say a special thank you to Lucy, who volunteered with Watford Mencap as both a parent and a supporter of our charity.💙

As the mum of one of our clients, Lucy understands firsthand the importance of the support, opportunities and connections that Watford Mencap provides. Her kindness, encouragement and willingness to give back made such a difference, and we’re so grateful for the time and care she brough on her volunteering day.

Thank you, Lucy, for supporting not only your family, but the wider Watford Mencap community too 🌟
