World Mental Health Day 2026

It's good to talk. It's even better to be heard.

This year's message reminds us how important it is to listen and make time for those who may be struggling with their mental health.

At Root & Branch, we provide a welcoming place where people can feel listened to and supported, spend time outdoors, enjoy gardening and rural crafts and work towards their own goals.

Thank you to Karen, Josh and Jack who returned to Root & Branch yesterday to complete their 2nd day with us to finish painting the inside of both our bothies.
They certainly picked a perfect day with the sun shining and a light breeze to help the paint dry.
Both bothies are now a very welcoming white thanks to the voluntary team from South Oxfordshire District Council and Vale of White Horse District Council.
We hope to welcome you back in the future and thank you for supporting Root & Branch.

Working from the office today and the view is proving slightly distracting!

Blue skies, sunshine and the Root & Branch garden.

It is easy to see why our garden is such an important part of Root & Branch, although I may need to remember I am supposed to be working!

Just sharing a little Wednesday morning sunshine from Westmill Farm.

Sharing some of the colour and beauty at Root & Branch and the important role our garden plays in supporting mental health and wellbeing.

Sometimes it is good to simply stop, take a moment and notice what is around us.

A little time in the garden can be a reminder of just how much there is to see when we slow down and take it all in.

The colours, sounds and small details of the natural world can offer a moment of calm in an otherwise busy day.

At Root & Branch, our garden offers all of this, but it is also much more. Therapeutic gardening is at the heart of the support we provide.

Working outdoors and connecting with nature can support wellbeing, provide a sense of purpose and achievement, build confidence and create opportunities to learn and develop new skills.

From sowing and planting to tending and harvesting, there is always something to take part in as our garden changes through the seasons.

It is a place where participants can spend time outdoors, take part in meaningful activities and work towards their individual goals as part of their recovery.

A few photographs from the garden to share some of what makes Root & Branch such a special place.

What a fantastic day we have had at Friars Court.

There are so many people to thank for making today possible.

Thank you to Richard and the Highworth Lions for kindly providing our transport to and from Root & Branch, and to our wonderful volunteers who joined us and helped support everyone throughout the visit.

A very special mention must also go to everyone who came along with us today. For some, visiting somewhere new and stepping outside the familiarity of Root & Branch can take real courage. Today brought new surroundings, new experiences and different challenges, and it was wonderful to share the day together.

Finally, a huge thank you to Charles at Friars Court for such a warm welcome. We were treated to a wonderful tour of the gardens and the museum, where we discovered more about the history of the Wilmer family, followed by tea and delicious cakes baked by Charles himself.

Friars Court supports Root & Branch in more ways than one, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do for us.

Thank you to everyone who helped make today possible and gave us a trip to remember.
