We’re delighted to share that Kindling Therapies CIC has received a grant from Youth Music to continue the pilot music group we started last year in partnership with The Special Lioness.

This project is all about creating accessible, inclusive opportunities for young people with disabilities to take part in group music-making—exploring creativity, connection, and self-expression in a supportive environment.

Our pilot last year showed us just how meaningful this work can be, and we’re so pleased to be able to develop it further. Sessions will begin again in May, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what the young people create together.

A big thank you to Youth Music for supporting this work, and to Special Lioness for their ongoing collaboration.

We’re currently exploring whether there is local interest in private music therapy sessions in North Tyneside, and the kinds of support people may be looking for, before arranging space and availability.

This may be relevant for children, young people, or adults who might benefit from music therapy, including those with additional needs, neurodivergence, emotional or mental health difficulties, or who are exploring therapeutic support through music.

If this feels relevant to you or your family, you’re very welcome to register an expression of interest using the short form at the top of the post. There is no obligation, and completing the form does not commit you to sessions, it just helps us understand local need.

We had our final rehearsal on Saturday for our music group showcase this weekend — and it’s all coming together beautifully! 🎶✨

Over the past weeks, each young person has explored different instruments and found something that truly brings them joy. We’ve been working hard to make everything as accessible and adaptable as possible, with massive thanks to the amazing team at The Special Lioness for helping adjust stands, supports, and setups so each young person can participate fully. 🦁💛

We’re so excited to share the finished performance with friends and family — it’s full of heart, creativity, and bravery. We couldn’t be more proud. 💜

We’re excited to share another part of our National Lottery funded project with the wonderful Special Lioness charity in Sunderland! 🦁💜

While the young music group explores sound and instruments, their siblings and other family members have been getting creative too — working with our art therapists to design and create a beautiful mural backdrop for the group’s final music showcase on November 8th. 🎶🎨

It’s been amazing to see their ideas come to life — full of colour, imagination and teamwork. Here are some photos of what they’ve been working on! 💛

✨ 🎶 Exciting news! 🎨 ✨

We’re thrilled to be working with The Special Lioness in Sunderland on a National Lottery funded music and art project for young people with additional needs and their families. 💜🦁

Over the last few weeks, our we’ve been exploring a wide range of instruments and music technology to help each young person find what feels right for them. From discovering sounds that spark joy to building confidence in playing together, every session is about creativity, expression, and fun.

Whilst the music has been happening, the musicians’ families have been working hard on a special art project which will be unveiled at our showcase in November 👀

A huge thank you to the National Lottery Community Fund for making this possible, and to all the players who support projects like this. 🙏💛

We’re a new Community Interest Company based in the North East, bringing together music therapy, arts therapy, and creative community projects. 🌱🎶🎨

Our vision is to create spaces where everyone — including people living with disabilities, health challenges, or differences in how they connect with the world — can explore, express, and feel the power of creativity.

Through music and the arts, we believe in building confidence, connection, and community.
