2214 Squadron ATC 2214 (Usworth) Squadron is a uniformed youth organisation for young people aged between 12-20. Part of Durham and Northumberland wing ATC.

2214 (Usworth) Squadron is part of the Air Training Corps; also known as the Air Cadets. Formed in 1941 the ATC provides those between 12-20 years of age skills that will be useful in both civilian and military life and an experience of HM Armed Forces and the Royal Air Force.

🏊 INTER-SQUADRON SWIMMING SUCCESS 🥈

A huge well done to Cadets Baxter, Campbell and Honeyball who represented 2214 at today’s Inter-Squadron Swimming competition at Morpeth Sports and Leisure Centre.

A special well done and congratulations to CDT Campbell who finished second and third in the Junior Boys’ Individual Medley and Breaststroke, respectively!

🟡 NEW INSTRUCTORS AT 2214 🎉

This week, Cpl Steadman and Sgt Brotherton successfully completed their final assessments for the Method of Instruction (MOI) qualification and are now officially entitled to wear the yellow instructor’s lanyard.

As integral members of our Cadet NCO Team, this qualification is another fantastic milestone and recognises their commitment to delivering excellent training to our cadets.

Well done, both - well deserved!

🏆 BUSY WEEKEND FOR 2214 ⭐️

The last weekend of September was a busy one for 2214!

On Saturday, 16 cadets took part in Durham Northumberland Wing Air Cadets Competitions Day across various competitions, including Cadet First Aid, Leadership and our first Banner Drill team entry in a very long time.

While we didn’t come away with any silverware this year, we’re extremely proud of everyone who competed!

But the fun didn’t stop there! Cpl Hattersley, CDT Carney, Cruddas and Hall Turnbull travelled down to Marne Barracks with our friends from 1507 (Chester-le-Street) Squadron for an introductory session to Sh***un Shooting.

Thank you to FS Haswell of 234 (City of Durham) Squadron ATC for leading a fantastic session and, as always, thank you to CI Heightley for his fabulous photography skills!

🥉 YOUTH FIRST AID WEEKEND ⛑️

This weekend, 12 cadets from 2214 Squadron attended a Youth First Aid course, working towards their bronze award!

Planned and delivered by our NCO IC, CWO Hair, the weekend saw cadets work through the 12-hour St John Ambulance course, developing essential first aid skills and putting their knowledge into practice.

From bandaging techniques to working with Little Anne and Choking Charlie, our cadets tackled a range of scenarios and built the confidence to respond when it matters most.

Well done to everyone who passed for your hard work and commitment this weekend!

👑 NEW CWO ON THE BLOCK ⬆️

This weekend, FS Hair attended Durham Northumberland Wing Air Cadets HQ for a board with the Deputy OC Wing, Squadron Leader Burton - and has successfully been appointed to the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer!

This is a huge milestone for 2214 Squadron, as CWO Hair becomes our first Cadet Warrant Officer in nearly a decade!

A fantastic achievement and thoroughly deserved. Congratulations, CWO Hair!

✈️ BATTLE OF BRITAIN 🇬🇧

On Sunday, 12 cadets from 2214 joined personnel from across the Wing, alongside veterans and local dignitaries at Durham Cathedral to commemorate the Battle of Britain.

Well done to everyone who took part in such an important occasion.

🚑 A SIREN-DIPITIOUS EVENING 🚨

Last night, CI Renwick brought his day job to us, with a visit from North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

Cadets and staff were shown around the ambulance vehicles used by the NHS Trust in the North East and, of course, no visit would be complete without trying the equipment and blasting the sirens.

A huge thank you to Dan and CI Renwick for taking the time out of their evenings to show us what they do!

⭐️ EGG-CELLENT PARADE NIGHT 🥚

It was a busy evening at 2214 last night!

While our newest intake were learning all about the Air Training Corps, A Flight and B Flight were starting their preparations for the upcoming Wing Competitions’ Day and went head-to-head in a leadership task.

With the brief delivered by CDT Hall and CDT Campbell, the flights were tasked with creating a protective parcel for a very important package being dropped from a height!

With 5 points awarded for the best blueprints, the best design and the best brief, the competition was going to be tight. While the main aim was to develop leadership and teamwork skills, A Flight’s “Bartholomew” took the final 10 points as the sole surviving egg!
