🏃🏽 INTER-SQUADRON ATHLETICS 🥈

And last, but by no means least, we ended the week with a trip to Monkton Stadium in Jarrow for the annual Inter-Squadron Athletics competition.

15 cadets attended the event to represent 2214 and we couldn’t be prouder!

A huge thank you to everyone who competed and special congratulations to those who came away with medals!

🍔 THANK YOU BARBECUE 🍗

Following a successful Annual Formal Inspection, our staff team hosted a barbecue and games evening for our cadets and their friends, to say thank you for all their efforts in the parade practices.

With Sgt Terry on the grill, FS Hair leading various rounds of ‘Chicken, Hero, Sidekick’ and apparently a juggling skills session, the evening was a success and a welcome break from the many parade nights of hard work!

🥉ANNUAL FORMAL INSPECTION 🫡

On Tuesday, we welcomed Deputy OC Durham Northumberland Wing Air Cadets Squadron Leader Burton to the squadron for our Annual Foral Inspection.

Accompanied by the Deputy Wing Warrant Officer, Sqn Ldr Burton took the time to speak with our cadets and find out what they are looking forward to in their cadet careers, before observing a formal march past and leading in-depth discussions with the staff team at the squadron headquarters.

A huge thank you to Miss Louise Todd for being our unofficial photographer!

⚡️ RADIO TRAINING SUCCESS 📻

We’ve had a packed week at 2214 - be prepared for a lot of updates!

Firstly, we made the most of Bank Holiday Monday with some basic radio training - a refresher for those who already have their qualifications, but we also saw seven cadets achieve their basic radio operator badge.

The day was broken up with lunch in the sun and a couple of games of football - what a way to spend the bank holiday!

💷 THANK YOU 🤝

A huge thank you to the Asda Foundation for their generous grant of £500 towards the purchase of MTP smocks for our cadets.

The acquisition of this grant has allowed us to purchase the necessary uniform items to allow our cadets to get involved with more outdoor activities - we are prepared not just for the summer, but for all weathers!

🥾 FANTASTIC FIVE 🏹

Over the weekend, five cadets took part in the Durham Northumberland Wing Air Cadets AT Challenge, one of the most popular events on our squadron calendar!

AT Challenge veterans FS Hair and FS Rushton, alongside Cpl Hattersley, Cdt Lee and Cdt Urwin competed in a range of activities in and around RAF Spadeadam in Cumbria, competing against 28 other squadrons in the wing.

We’re pleased to announce that 2214 Squadron finished in a fantastic fifth place, only six points behind the top three! Fantastic effort!

✈️ TAKE-OFF AT TOPCLIFFE ☁️

Despite some less than favourable weather, four cadets from 2214 Squadron got their first taste of gliding at RAF Topcliffe yesterday.

The successful day saw Cpl Atkinson and Cdts Campbell, Hall Turnbull and Johnston getting two launches each in the Viking T1 glider before the Yorkshire weather had other plans!

🕹️ MULTI-ACTIVITY MONDAY 🎯

If you’ve followed us for a while, you will know we love to make the most of a bank holiday, and today was no exception!

Today cadets from 2214 and 1507 (Chester-le-Street) Squadron enjoyed a day of activities at the squadron, including outdoor archery, flight simulator training, Rocket League and a variety of garden games. Of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without the speakers playing some fantastic tunes!

Keep an eye out for squadron multi-activity days appearing soon on Cadet Portal!
