Keep Hatton Station Rural

Keep Hatton Station Rural We are a community group formed in response to the proposed new town at Hatton which could see 5,000+ houses built on the Green Belt in Warwick.

We are also campaigning against a planning application for housing on a wildlife habitat at Hatton Station.

The proposed new town is in the news:

Residents oppose plans for 5,250 homes in Hatton, claiming ignored evidence. Councils move forward; consultation opens. Developers support phased growth

Another long meeting last night!
The Joint Cabinet met to consider the draft SWLP - including an addendum containing the outcome of an advisory visit from the Planning Inspectorate which raised a number of significant issues around viability of the plan, housing numbers and net zero / bio-diversity policies.
A number of amendments to the recommendations on the agenda were discussed. These amended recommendations were agreed. In summary, the recommendations to the two councils are to delay the start of the Reg 19 consultation to allow more work to be done to address the issues raised by the Planning Inspector. There will be a further round of committee / council meetings in late June / early July to consider updated documents. The Reg 19 consultation is now expected to start mid July!
We now await the Warwick full council meeting on Monday which will consider the recommendations from Joint Cabinet.

If you’re reading this and wondering what you can do…
Please don’t assume everyone around you knows what’s happening locally. We are aware that many people still do not know about the proposed new town at Hatton and the local growth locations at Hampton Magna. If these go ahead there will be a massive impact on South Warwickshire.

There is a huge amount of work happening behind the scenes. Groups like us and Save Lapworth and parish councils are spending a lot of time every day to track developments, break down the detail, and keep the community informed of key developments.

YOU can make a real difference by helping spread the word.

The SWLP is moving fast — staying informed and spreading the word really matters.

There has been very little publicity so far about the South Warwickshire Local Plan, and the impact on the Hatton area, so pleased that Warwick Nub News has posted this article. https://warwick.nub.news/news/local-news/hatton-earmarked-as-one-of-two-new-settlements-for-south-warwickshire-297186

If the proposal for a new town at Hatton goes ahead it will have a massive impact on the area. Remember also that Local Growth locations are proposed around Hampton Magna.

The supplementary information, including the Planning Inspectorate advice, mentioned in the Save Lapworth post is now on our website.

There very many issues raised by councillors at the O&S meeting last night. A councillor challenged planners about whether the plan was "developer led" but in our view did not receive a satisfactory answer. We are firmly of the view that Hatton was chosen because it was perceived as "easy" - the "convenience of delivery" that we have been raised many times previously.

The Warwick District Council Overview and Scrutiny Committee met last night to consider an addendum to the report to be considered on Thursday by the Joint Cabinet. An advisory visit from the Planning Inspectorate last week has flagged concerns about the viability of the proposed plan which could result in changes to some policies. This may result in a delay to the start of the consultation period.

Councillors were clearly very unhappy with what they have seen in the draft plan and the additional information presented in the Addendum. So many issues were raised that the meeting was adjourned after almost 4 hours (until this evening).

Stratford O&S Committee will be considering the draft plan and Addendum this morning. It will be interesting to see their views on what is being proposed.

Why was Hatton chosen as the site of a new town?
Appendix K of the Sustainability Appraisal, which is available on the SWLP website states: "Better availability as under the control of single landowner, with implications for deliverability. Promoters have engaged well with the plan-making process and have shown a clear willingness to develop."

It was therefore chosen because it was perceived as "easy" to develop - the "convenience of delivery" we have highlighted before.
