Everyone deserves to feel included — to feel welcome, supported, and part of something meaningful, especially during moments that bring people together.

That’s what inclusion looks like at the RDA National Championships. 💚

It’s more than an event. It’s a space where participants of all abilities can take part with confidence, build connections, and be celebrated for who they are.

As part of our Summer of Inclusion, it’s one of the many ways we’re creating opportunities for everyone to belong.

And it simply wouldn’t happen without the support behind the scenes.

A huge thank you to all our partners and sponsors — events like this are only possible because of you. ✨

🎉 Honouring Two Extraordinary Champions of RDA

We are absolutely delighted to congratulate two remarkable members of the RDA community, Doug Smith, a long-standing volunteer with RDA UK, and Di Redfern, Chair of South Bucks RDA, who have both been awarded an MBE in His Majesty The King's Birthday Honours List for their outstanding services to disabled riders.

Through decades of dedication, leadership and service, Doug and Di have helped shape RDA, transform lives and create opportunities for countless disabled people through the power of horses.

Doug Smith, a former Mounted Policeman whose riding career ended following a double spinal fracture in 1995, has dedicated more than 35 years to RDA after first becoming involved with the charity in the late 1980s. During that time, he has supported the organisation at every level, from coaching and regional development to national leadership, while playing a key role in the growth of the National Championships, championing equine welfare and helping guide RDA through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alongside his work with RDA, Doug has made a significant contribution to para equestrian sport internationally, including involvement at multiple Paralympic Games, World Para Dressage Championships and Special Olympics events.

Doug said: "To receive this award for doing something I love, and that is also so worthwhile, is an absolute privilege. RDA was my salvation after my accident, and I have found great purpose in giving back, sharing what is possible and helping others discover what they can achieve."

Di Redfern has been a dedicated RDA volunteer since the 1960s, playing a significant role in the development of both South Bucks RDA and the wider RDA movement. Passionate about ensuring disabled riders receive high-quality, individualised coaching and support, she has championed generations of riders while embodying the RDA principle that "It's what you can do that counts."

Beyond South Bucks RDA, Di has made a major contribution to the development of talented riders, the Para Equestrian squad and future generations of coaches through her innovative coaching, mentoring and support. Her award recognises more than six decades of service, during which she has helped countless riders gain confidence, develop new skills and achieve ambitions they never thought possible.

Di said: "I am honoured to receive an MBE and would like to thank everyone associated with South Bucks RDA and RDA UK – the work we do is a true team effort.

These honours recognise not only decades of dedication, leadership and service, but also the profound and lasting impact Doug and Di have had on riders, volunteers, families and communities across the RDA movement. We could not be prouder to see their extraordinary contributions recognised in this way.

💚 Michael Bishop, CEO of RDA UK, said: "On behalf of everyone at RDA, I am delighted to congratulate Doug and Di on this wonderful and richly deserved recognition. Their commitment, compassion and unwavering dedication have transformed lives and helped shape our organisation for the better. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved, and their MBEs are a fitting tribute to the lasting difference they have made to so many disabled people."

This is what a Summer of Inclusion looks like. 💚

Across the UK, RDA groups are opening their doors for Tea with a Pony days - creating welcoming, supportive spaces where disabled people can relax, connect and enjoy meaningful moments.

These sessions offer a calm, multi-sensory experience, supporting memory, alertness and engagement, while bringing together participants, families and carers. They also help more people discover RDA and the opportunities available through their local groups.

Because of you, we can continue helping more disabled people access opportunities like these across the UK.

Together, we can ensure no one is left in the shade this summer.

This is Austin 💛

At RDA, we believe every child deserves to belong.

For many disabled children, summer can be isolating, with fewer opportunities to get active, make friends, or enjoy the outdoors.

But with RDA, it’s a different story.

Supported by a caring team and inclusive activities, Austin is building confidence, strength and joy in a space where he’s truly welcomed.

Because of you, more children can experience a Summer of Inclusion.

This summer at RDA… there’s so much more than meets the eye.

From peaceful carriage drives through the countryside and laughter-filled Tea with a Pony afternoons, to the excitement of the RDA National Championships, outdoor cinema and uplifting sessions in the arena ✨

Every moment is designed with inclusion in mind, creating spaces where disabled children and their families can feel welcomed, supported, and free to be themselves.

Behind every moment are the volunteers, coaches and supporters who make it possible. Through our Summer of Inclusion campaign, we're raising funds to help sustain RDA’s work across the UK, supporting the people, programmes and opportunities that enable more disabled children and adults to benefit from everything RDA has to offer.

💚 Because of you, this can be a Summer of Inclusion.

Together, let’s make this a Summer of Inclusion. 💚

Because of you, this can be a summer filled with friendship, confidence, and the joy of being active - where every disabled child feels seen, supported and included.

But right now, too many children are still left in the shade.

We’re working to change that - creating inclusive activities, training specialist coaches and volunteers, and through safe, welcoming spaces where every child can belong.

Your support helps make this possible - giving children the chance to build confidence, form friendships, and experience the freedom of being part of something.

As Volunteers’ Week comes to a close, we’re looking back on just some of the incredible moments from the past few days 💚

Here are just a few highlights from the week:

💙 We loved seeing groups sharing appreciation for their amazing volunteers on social, your posts have been so inspiring

🐴 Groups across the UK opened their doors for Tea with a Pony events, welcoming local communities and giving people the chance to experience RDA first-hand

🎙️ RDA UK National Volunteering Manager, Rachel, joined the What’s The Charitea? podcast to talk all things volunteering

💡 A brilliant webinar led by Rob Jackson explored how we can create more welcoming, flexible and inclusive opportunities, especially for young volunteers

🎉 Equi-Power RDA was recognised with a nomination for the Inspire Volunteering Award by Stirlingshire Voluntary Enterprise

🌟 Millie Boo Smith was named a finalist for the Stirlingshire Voluntary Enterprise in the 'Young Volunteer' category and was awarded her 200hr Saltire Awards.

It’s The Big Help Out weekend... have you got a few hours to spare? 👀

At RDA, that time could mean helping a participant take the reins, build confidence and experience the joy of being around horses.

No two volunteering roles look the same, you could be supporting sessions, caring for horses, helping to make the tea and coffee or helping your local group run smoothly. But every role makes a real difference!
