Sidney update. We made some steps out of pallets and lowered the suspension on the Landy to make it easier to get Sidney in. Just as Jules was doing this I was with Sidney and he w**d. The vets want me to monitor him again for now. I’ve read up about this so I’m not stupid and do know all about it. I’m more than prepared to take him for an op at any point dispite not having help here for our other animals we’d drop everything and take the dogs too and go if need be. We have already been to a vet hospital last week as you know. So I’m not sitting on my hands. I’ve had ‘out of hours’ vets come out and multiple call outs to him this last week and been to get him scanned and all seemed to be well last week after the scan and he picked up. I’m on the case and speaking with VETS constantly.

We had the vet out to Sidney yesterday, he’s not been showing signs of straining for a wee but I’ve not seen him wee. It’s such a worry and we’re both really stressed out. Keeping Sidney in to monitor if he’s w**d hasn’t been easy as he was jumping the hurdles so we’ve had to put an extra layer on top to make it higher. The vet gave him a drench directly into his stomach with a tube down his throat which was scary but he tolerated that well, a litre of water went in. I’m just waiting for a call back from the vets hospital to see if they can do the op and it’s possible for him. Jules has had two heart attacks and shouldn’t lift that heavy but even though we tried last time it was so hard it took us a while to get front end in first and then the back end which even doing it that way was difficult beyond words. One way or another we have to give him a chance, all this stress and watching and trying to get him to eat. This is a really stressful situation, the worry of costs on top of the worry of Sidney. Please keep him in your thoughts.

Don’t they know what time it is😩It’s five in the morning and they’re demanding biscuits. Lulu starts bleating and calling at around 4 or 5am she likes to be let out of her run so she can go a wander. Good job I don’t sleep, I first heard Jules making a racket at 4 when he fell over the dog bed🙈 Teddy taps the door to ask to go out but then decided he didn’t want to. I’m so used to not getting a full night sleep, but now at my grand old age I realise how much I’d love an undisturbed sleep. But saying that how empty would my life be without my four legged family🥺

Wishlist Update! 🐐🐑🐾First of all, thank you all so much for your incredible, ongoing support—it truly means the world to us and the animals! I wanted to share a quick update regarding the Amazon Wishlist. As many of you know, Sidney recently suffered from urinary stones. To keep him happy and healthy, he and the rest of the herd have transitioned to a very strict, special diet to prevent any future stones.Because of this, we’ve had to make some major changes to what they can eat.
No more mineral blocks-Once the herd finishes what we currently have left, we will no longer be using mineral blocks. The molasses in them can contribute to stone formation in males.
Feed store changes: Certain specialized feeds can now only be sourced directly from our local feed store, so they have been removed from Amazon.
What’s left on the list: I have completely revised the wishlist! Safe options like meadow hay and plain salt licks are still on there for the goats and sheep.Dog treats: You will also spot plenty of treats and goodies on the list that are strictly for the dogs. If you are thinking of spoiling the sanctuary family with a gift, please ensure you only choose items from the newly revised list so we can keep Sidney stone-free and healthy.

How we’re spending our Saturday so far, I’ve picked poos in pouring rain, seen to all the animals, waiting for sheep to poo so I can catch for samples, I didn’t manage them so just taken goats poos, will have to go again next week with sheep ones, driven to take the samples which took just under a couple of hours all round, then nipped to get a few bits for dinner for us. It’s hardly ever a lazy peaceful Saturday. Some island far far away looks so inviting lately. We desperately need more shelters so we can love them off this field into another one but I don’t know if we’ll find a way before winter. Last winter was rain for months and it became a mud pit with so many hooves on it and this winter is threatening to be worse, how I don’t know as last one was as bad as it could get. But I don’t think they or we can cope with another one like that, mud and only one field with shelters in, we somehow need to build enough shelters for them all to move into the next field and let this one rest. That’s a whole other worry. Back to picking poos. Happy Saturday everyone

How long does it take to get a sheep to poo! I’ve spent hours this morning trying to catch their poos. I spent hours last night collecting goat poos and really wanted to get the sheep ones separately. It looks like I’m going to the vets with only goats poos as I’m running out of time. I have to get the samples in before 1 and it’s a 40 min drive. Also I’m running late due to waiting for poos and it’s been one of those nights.

I’m behind with posts due to so much going on here, vets call outs, poorly goat, elderly Lulu needing so much attention and recently poo samples for worm counts, lots going on I don’t know where to begin I’m over loaded with stress, so I’ll post this from the other day of us getting hay on Wednesday while it was sunny and by evening it was thunder storms.
We’ve got a lot of reorganising to do here and emergency fencing and shelter building to move all the goats and sheep over the coming weeks which I’ll go into further in another post.
