This National Volunteers’ Week, we want to recognise and celebrate the incredible parent carers who design, shape and power REALLL Support CIC.

People may ask why parent carers volunteer their time when they already have so much to juggle. The answer is simple: because we have so much to juggle.

As parent carers, we know first-hand how hard and complicated it can be to navigate systems that are often imperfect and overwhelming. We understand the endless forms, appointments, waiting lists, phone calls, and battles for support. We know the emotional and practical challenges that come with caring for our children while trying to hold everything else together.

That lived experience is exactly why we volunteer.

We volunteer because we know how valuable it is when someone shares information, points you in the right direction, or simply understands what you’re going through. We volunteer because no parent carer should have to navigate these challenges alone.

Every piece of advice shared, every support group facilitated, every resource created, and every conversation held comes from a place of understanding and a genuine desire to help others.

At REALLL Support CIC, our volunteers give their time not because they have lots of spare hours, but because they know the difference that support can make. If we can make life a little easier for a fellow parent carer, help them feel less isolated, or save them some time and stress, then it’s worth it.

This Volunteers’ Week, we thank every parent carer who gives their time, knowledge, compassion and energy to support others. Your dedication strengthens our community and reminds us all that together, we can make navigating the journey a little easier.

Happy Volunteers’ Week, and thank you to every volunteer who makes REALLL Support possible. 💜

Our May meetings have been lovely.

Friday morning included a light breakfast platter, and Monday evening included Pizza and welcomed Tash, and Jordan from the Sensory SEND & Wellbeing Hub. They introduced their new service designed to plug a massive gap in education and support for children and young people who are unable to access school, or who simply need a little extra support. Their approach is tailored to each learner, focusing on building trust, confidence, and positive learning experiences.

We also heard about Warrington Youth Zone and everything they offer.

Throughout the evening, we covered a number of important topics, including:

* Difficulties accessing education and support
* Transport challenges
* Mental Health
* The recent phone calls some families have received up selling (yes, actually selling) a reduction in home-to-school transport support through a tax-free personal budget 🙈
* The stresses parents face daily
* Sleep deprivation
* The importance of conversations and connection - Sometimes it’s just one chance conversation that can open the door to support.

A massive thank you to Creamfields Community Fund for supporting REALLL and to The Old School for providing a place for us meet.

We can’t wait for our next meetings:

📅 Monday 8th June — 6:30pm to 8:30pm
📅 Friday 19th June — 10:00am to 12:00pm

Parent power is incredible, isn’t it? 💪✨

We couldn’t think of a better example than the amazing efforts of Fantastic Fox Wood PTA, who have raised an impressive £132,000 to support their school community. A huge part of this has gone towards transforming the playground at Fantastic Fox Wood SEND School into a fully accessible space where EVERY child can play, explore and thrive.

This wonderful Granada Reports feature captures the heart of the project beautifully, from the impact on the children to the sheer determination behind it. And we have to mention one of our own members, Rachel, whose commitment went above and beyond… literally! Tattooing the Fox Wood logo is certainly one way to show just how passionate and determined you are, if not just a little crazy!! 😂👏

Massive congratulations to Rachel, the Fox Wood PTA, and everyone at Fox Wood School for making such a meaningful and lasting difference.

This is what community is all about 💜🩷

One thing that comes up at every meeting is how many children and young people are unable to access education due to a variety of barriers.

But being taught differently, and in the right environment for your child, can make all the difference. It’s incredible to hear stories like this, and many of our parent carers will relate to the experience of education simply not working for their child.

What this shows us, alongside the immense pride felt by Mel Moon Comedy, is that there are other options and other ways to learn. Finding the right approach isn’t always easy, but it is possible.

With this in mind, we’re delighted to have Jordan from The Send Sensory & Wellbeing Hub joining us at our next evening meeting on Monday 18th May. Jordan offers private tutoring sessions either in your home or at their hub, and will be sharing more about their approach and how they can support your child.

We hope you can join us!

Today the day my 15 yo taught me anything is possible…. Oh my heart could explode with pride. 18 months ago my son’s school told me that his AUDHD was so severe they couldn’t teach him anymore. They diagnosed level 2 autism with delays and said that he didn’t understand language the way he should never mind anything else. My whole world changed and if I’m honest I haven’t been the same since. But there was a glimmer of hope; his doctor withdrew him from school but mentioned that in one of his assessments he’d shown unmet potential. As a Mother that was all I needed to hear. I found a teacher called Carl who had expertise in kids on the spectrum. He took my boy on a 3-1 ratio. He gave us cards to expand his vocabulary, he worked so hard with Riley finding the map to his learning path. He found it. As I write this we are on our way to Riley’s first GSCE exam. (He’s studying we we drive) We are staggering them over a year to help him cope. He has two in the next few days then none until September. This one is his Maths. His predicted grade is good and the self discipline he has shown in the last two weeks preparing for today is inspiring. Riley’s vocabulary is miles better than it was now he’s brave enough to ask meanings of words rather than just hear them and guess, his enjoyment of learning is slowly starting to return. He only needs Maths, English, Science and Business to progress to A levels for his chosen career and I KNOW he will do it.
Whatever happens today he knows he can resit but seeing the work he’s put in with Carl, I have a sense of optimism that he won’t need to.
Listen, sometimes it’s not the kid it’s the institution. To go from ‘he will fail everything’ to ‘he’s ready to sit his Maths in 18 months is nothing short of miraculous and I have never felt pride like it. THIS IS A DAY I NEVER want to forget.
