Martin's Moments
I wanted to start this week by announcing that Room at the Inn has been shortlisted for the Charity/Community Impact Award at the Warrington Business Awards, which will be held on 15 October 2026.
We are delighted to be recognised for the work we do within our local community and honoured to be shortlisted alongside other fantastic charities from across our region. Whilst awards are never the reason we do what we do, it is always encouraging when the efforts of our staff, volunteers, trustees and supporters are acknowledged in this way.
This week, subject to a few final technical checks, will also see the launch of our new website.
This represents a significant upgrade on our previous site and one we hope will make it easier for people to access information and support when they need it. It will also help strengthen our digital presence and improve our ability to raise the funds needed to continue supporting those experiencing homelessness in Warrington.
My thanks go to a small team of talented individuals who generously gave their time and expertise free of charge to turn an idea into reality. Had we commissioned this work commercially, it would have cost many thousands of pounds, so we are incredibly grateful for their commitment, patience and skill.
As part of the final testing process, we asked some of the people who use our services to give us their honest feedback. Alongside their thoughts on the website itself, several wanted to share what Room at the Inn means to them. We were only too happy to include some of their comments, and with their permission, here are a few examples:
• “It’s a safe place to be and to clean yourself, wash clothes, make a hot meal and a hot drink. Get advice with housing and accommodation and help with forms to complete. It’s a great place.”
• “Great staff who help in many ways. They help me with a shower, food, drinks and a bed. They also help with housing and medical appointments. I always feel safe and welcome. Anything you ask, they help or sort whatever the situation. Great service.”
• “Somewhere to relax and have food and a shower. Staff are very helpful and keep the place friendly and relaxed.”
• “My experience at the shelter has been good and the staff have helped me with a lot of stuff that I wouldn’t have known where to begin with.”
• “It’s a great place to attend. Staff help you in all sorts of ways, including appointments and practical support. There are always warm drinks and food. I have a lot of respect for them because they have helped me out in so many ways. I always feel welcome. They always direct me to the right places. It helps my mental health by attending. Thanks to all the staff – great service.”
Being shortlisted for an award is wonderful recognition from our community, but reading comments like these reminds us why we exist in the first place. In another busy week filled with meetings, projects and plans, hearing directly from those we support means the world to the team and makes all the hard work worthwhile.
Until next time,
Martin
