Across the UK, millions of unpaid carers provide vital support every day to family members, friends and loved ones, often alongside work, family life and their own wellbeing.

This Carers Week, join thousands of individuals and organisations helping to raise awareness, empower carers and create real change in our workplaces, schools, services and communities.

At Making Space, we’re proud to support carers through our services, partnerships and events taking place across the week - including carers picnics, wellbeing activities, information events, afternoon teas and day trips designed to bring carers together, offer support and help carers feel valued.

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the amazing people who give their time, compassion and energy to support others across Making Space 💜

Meet Erika, a volunteer at Kingshill Court 👋

After experiencing her own mental health challenges, Erika began volunteering to help rebuild her confidence, gain experience and reconnect with education and work opportunities — and she’s already making a huge difference.

From supporting residents with daily activities and joining social outings, to simply sitting and having a chat, Erika brings warmth, kindness and positivity to everyone around her.

💬 “Talking with the residents is more rewarding than people may think. From daily chit chats to listening to their life stories, it’s my favourite thing to do.”

Thank you, Erika, for the compassion, energy and support you bring to Kingshill Court every day ✨

🚐✨ Dreams really can come true ✨🚐

At Palmyra in Liverpool, Jimmy shared with the team that he loves road trips and adventures, and that one of his biggest dreams was to enjoy a weekend getaway in a caravan.

Thanks to the kindness and support of Activity Coordinator Colleen and the team, that dream became a reality with a special trip to Rhyl 🌊

Jimmy said it was one of the best experiences he has ever had and shared that the trip has inspired him to dream even bigger and hope for more adventures in the future 💙

It’s wonderful to see person-centred support helping people create special memories, build confidence and experience the things that matter most to them.

A huge well done to everyone involved in making this happen 😊

💚🩷 Hope was louder at Making Space 🩷💚

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been proud to be part of A Million Acts of Hope – a UK-wide campaign celebrating the everyday acts of kindness, care and community that bring people together 💫

From Trees of Hope and sunflower planting to wellbeing activities, fundraising events and simple acts of kindness, colleagues, volunteers, community partners and the people who draw on our support embraced the campaign right across Making Space.

One of the highlights was our Hope in Warrington event, where local people came together for an afternoon of music, creativity and positivity. We were treated to incredible performances from Creating Adventures’ Bold as Brass band and Beautiful Noise choir, welcomed wonderful support from Walton Lea Partnership, and shared countless conversations about hope, kindness and community 💛

🌟 Volunteers’ Week 2026 is here! 🌟

We’re proud to be joining organisations across the UK in celebrating the 42nd year of Volunteers’ Week, a time to recognise and thank the incredible people who give their time, skills and compassion to support others.

At Making Space, our 125 volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. From supporting activities and community groups to offering peer support and companionship, their contribution makes a real difference to the people we support, carers, staff teams and local communities.

This week, we’ll also be celebrating and thanking our volunteers at our annual Volunteer Celebration Event at The Midland Hotel, Manchester, with entertainment and a special three-course lunch as a token of appreciation.

🎱☕ Fridays are all about good company, friendly competition and getting out into the community at Palmyra in Liverpool 😊

Every Friday, residents enjoy a trip to a local café for lunch and a game of pool – a simple routine that brings plenty of laughs!

Back at the service, there’s also an indoor pool table and table tennis setup available whenever people fancy a game, helping everyone stay active, social and engaged in the things they enjoy.

It’s lovely to see people spending time together, building confidence and making the most of the activities on offer 💙
