We’ve officially announced **The Smokey Project’s chosen rescue centre for 2026**! 🎄🐶

This year, we’ll be collecting donations for **Dogs Trust Manchester** — helping support the dogs who are waiting for their forever homes. 🏡❤️

And we’ve already got some amazing support behind us…

🏒 **Manchester Mayhem** have kindly volunteered to collect donations at their training sessions, so if you’re heading along, you can help us fill those donation boxes too! 🐾🙌

We’ll also have **fundraising events and other ways to donate** coming up over the next few months, so keep your eyes peeled on the page.

The Smokey Project has already helped **120+ rescue dogs since 2022**, and we’d love to make this year’s Christmas collection our biggest one yet. 🎁🐶

Whether it’s a bag of food, a toy, a blanket, a treat or a donation towards something the rescue needs — **every single bit helps.** ❤️

🐾🎄 **THE SMOKEY PROJECT 2026 — WE HAVE OUR RESCUE!** 🎄🐾

We’ve finally chosen the rescue centre we’ll be supporting this year… and we’re delighted to announce that **The Smokey Project will be collecting for Dogs Trust Manchester!** 🐶❤️

After helping support **120+ rescue dogs since 2022**, we’re so excited to be getting ready for another Christmas of giving back and helping make the festive season a little brighter for dogs waiting for their forever homes. 🎁🐾

Over the next few months, keep your eyes peeled for details of our **fundraising events and donation drives** — we’ll be sharing everything here as plans come together!

And we already have some fantastic support lined up… 🥁

⚠️ WEATHER WARNING CONTINUES TOMORROW ⚠️

The extreme weather warnings remain in place tomorrow, with some areas forecast to reach temperatures of **up to 37°C**.

For our dogs, these conditions can become dangerous very quickly.

🐾 Walk early in the morning or late in the evening
🐾 Provide plenty of fresh water and access to shade
🐾 Never assume pavements are safe – check them first
🐾 Watch closely for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse

Remember, dogs cannot regulate their body temperature as effectively as we can. What feels warm to us can be life-threatening for them.

There is no shame in skipping a walk during extreme heat. A missed walk is far better than an emergency trip to the vet.

Please take care, check local forecasts, and put your dog's welfare first.

If your dog loves going for a swim - here’s some important information to remember

Although it might be tempting to let your dog go for a dip on a warm day, it's important to stay alert for signs of blue-green algae.

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) can produce toxins that are extremely dangerous to dogs, even in small amounts. Dogs can be exposed by swimming, drinking contaminated water, or simply licking algae from their coat after a paddle.

Keep an eye out for:

🟢 Green paint-like scum on the water surface
🟢 Pea-soup green or discoloured water
🟢 Blue-green streaks or floating mats
🟢 Surface foam or bubbles
🟢 A strong earthy or sewage-like smell
🟢 Dead fish or wildlife nearby

Symptoms can develop within minutes and may include vomiting, drooling, twitching, seizures, breathing difficulties and collapse.

⚠️ If in doubt, stay out.

If you suspect your dog has been exposed, contact your vet immediately.

It’s !

Greyhounds are affectionate, loveable goofballs, and if you’re thinking about adopting a dog, Greyhounds shouldn’t be overlooked!

Leo loves nothing more than snoozing after playing in the garden with his favourite toys or a good walk where he’s been able to a sniff around.

He truly is a great companion.

Some useful information for those of you with a greyhound in your life 💙

Bank Holiday temperatures are set to climb into the high 20’s this weekend 🌡️

While we might enjoy the sunshine, it can be dangerous for greyhounds very quickly. Their lean bodies and low body fat mean they overheat faster than many other breeds.

🐾 Please remember:
• Walk early morning or late evening
• Always provide shade and fresh water
• Avoid hot pavements
• Never leave dogs in cars

If the ground is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

Keep an eye out for signs of heatstroke:
🚨 Heavy panting
🚨 Weakness or collapse
🚨 Red or pale gums
🚨 Vomiting or feeling unwell
