Greyhounds are affectionate, loveable goofballs, and if you’re thinking about adopting a dog, Greyhounds shouldn’t be overlooked!

Leo loves nothing more than snoozing after playing in the garden with his favourite toys or a good walk where he’s been able to a sniff around.

He truly is a great companion.

Some useful information for those of you with a greyhound in your life 💙

Bank Holiday temperatures are set to climb into the high 20’s this weekend 🌡️

While we might enjoy the sunshine, it can be dangerous for greyhounds very quickly. Their lean bodies and low body fat mean they overheat faster than many other breeds.

🐾 Please remember:
• Walk early morning or late evening
• Always provide shade and fresh water
• Avoid hot pavements
• Never leave dogs in cars

If the ground is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

Keep an eye out for signs of heatstroke:
🚨 Heavy panting
🚨 Weakness or collapse
🚨 Red or pale gums
🚨 Vomiting or feeling unwell

Our simple guide shows when it’s safe to play, when to be cautious, and when it’s time to stay cool indoors.

Not all dogs handle heat the same—Cill Dubh Hounds included. Keep an eye on:

💧 Water access
🌳 Shade
🐶 Age & condition

Essential info to remember now days are getting warmer ☀️

☀️ **Keep Cool, Keep Them Safe** 🐾

Warm days are here, but for our greyhounds, heat can be more dangerous than we think. Their lean bodies mean they can overheat quickly—even when it doesn’t feel *that* hot to us.

💡 **Quick reminder:**
If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

💧 Make sure your hounds always have:
• Fresh water
• Shade to rest
• Walks during cooler parts of the day

🚨 **Know the signs of heatstroke:**
• Heavy panting
• Bright red or very pale gums
• Weakness or collapse
• Vomiting or diarrhoea

If you notice any of these, act fast—cool them down and contact your vet immediately.

Let’s look after our long-legged friends and keep them safe all summer long 💚

Celebrating Smokey’s birthday was something that we couldn’t do, as we didn’t know when his birthday was….or how old he was, the vet gave us an estimate that he was between 6-12 months when we brought him home.

We can however, celebrate Leo’s birthday as him being ex racing, his birth date is documented.

Happy Birthday Leo! 🎉🐾

Today we’re celebrating the one and only Leo – the inspiration behind Cill Dubh Hounds 💙

He’ll be having a great day today, with a run round the secure forest, doing what he loves most! 🌲🐕

Here’s to many more adventures, zoomies, and happy days ahead 🐾✨
