Warrington Freemasons The Official page of the Warrington Masonic Group. The Warrington Masonic Group is part of the Provincial Grand Lodge of West Lancashire.

The Province of West Lancashire is not only the largest of the Provinces ranged under the banner of the United Grand Lodge of England but can also claim to be the birthplace of English Freemasonry. The initiation of Elias Ashmole in Warrington on 16 October 1646 is the earliest recorded initiation into English Freemasonry. All trace of that early Lancashire lodge, if indeed such a lodge existed and was not merely an ad hoc meeting of conveniently situated Freemasons, has disappeared. The oldest of the existing lodges in the province is the Lodge of Loyalty No 86 in Prescot which dates from 1753 and still meets on the Wednesday before a full moon, although the brethren, of course, can no longer rely on their horses to see them safely home in the moonlight. The Province was founded as Lancashire Western Division in 1826, becoming the Province of West Lancashire in 1960. It covers that part of the ancient county of Lancashire west of the Great North Road (A6) but includes Preston and Lancaster. It extends from the Lake District to the River Mersey and from Liverpool into the suburbs of Manchester. Its lodges now meet in five counties – Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire

On Thursday evening, Travellers Lodge No. 4679 hosted its annual Ladies’ Dining Evening, welcoming the families and friends of lodge members for an enjoyable social gathering.

The brethren first conducted a short lodge meeting while guests relaxed downstairs and enjoyed pre-dinner drinks.

Following the meeting, everyone came together for a delightful dinner, which was followed by a light-hearted quiz and charity raffle. The evening proved to be a great success, with the raffle raising £170 for charity, adding a charitable highlight to an enjoyable and well-attended event.

Today, the Warrington Group held its annual ‘Service of Thanksgiving and Re-dedication ’ at St. Elphins Church, Warrington.

Upon arrival, The Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Sagheer Zaman was greeted by several grand officers and distinguished guests which included; Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Frank Umbers, David Barr, Deputy Grand Superintendent, Andy Whittle, Second Provincial Grand Principal, W. Bro Stuart Sutherland Boyd, the Assistant to the Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro John Tyrer, Warrington Group Chairman, W.Bro Nick Delaney, Warrington Group Vice-Chairman,, Warrington Group Secretary and several Lady Freemasons from the Lodge of St Clare Chapter No. 204

The service was conducted by Cannon John Hall with guest speakers Phil Hudson WM of Lodge of Charity, Jade Murphy, Lodge of St Clare and Deputy Provincial Chaplain who were under the watchful eye of DC W.Bro Bill Wainwright

Brethren, a reminder that this Sunday 11th is the Warrington Group Bi-Centenial and Rededication service at St Elphin's Church. We will be joined by Deputy Provincial Grand Master Frank Umbers and the Mayor of Warrington. The sermon will be given by the Provincial Grand Chaplin and music by the Provincial Grand Organist.
Banner procession will be from 2.50pm with a rehearsal at 2pm. Please collect your lodge banner from the hall before COP Friday.
We hope as many of you as possible will come to support this wonderful event and join us for tea and coffee at the Hall afterwards.

Academy Lodge 9382 commenced the season in spectacular fashion with the initiation of Dr Giritharalingham Muhuntha Gnanalingham, affectionately known as “Mo”, into the mysteries of Freemasonry.

The ceremony was expertly conducted by W Bro. Chris Kehow, whose delivery ensured the occasion was both memorable and meaningful for all in attendance.

The celebrations then continued downstairs at the Festive Board, where members and guests enjoyed an evening of fellowship, good cheer, and camaraderie, rounding off a truly special night for the Lodge

Tonight, Ashmole Lodge No.5128 installed Bro Graham Marsh into the chair of King Solomon in the presence of the assistant to the Provincial Grand Master WBro Michael Tax along with distinguished guests WBro Andy Barton, WBro John T McIntyre and, WBro John Tyrer Chairman of the Warrington Group of Lodges and Chapters.
WBro Mike Moore conducted the ceremony.

The address to the Master was presented by WBro Nick Delaney followed by the address to the wardens by WBro John Tyrer.

Ashmole Lodge have donated over £3000 to charity in the last 12 months of which a large amount has gone to local charities like Room At the Inn and Warrington Talking Newspaper along with Prostate Cancer and Pancreatic Cancer.

Once the lodge business concluded the celebration adjourned downstairs to the festive board where the celebration continued.

WBro John Medwyn Jones Celebrates 60 Years in Freemasonry

WBro John Medwyn Jones of St. David's Lodge No. 2950 has celebrated the remarkable milestone of 60 years in Freemasonry. He was initiated into St. David's Lodge on 16 September 1966 and has remained a dedicated and valued member throughout his Masonic journey.

Now an Honorary Member of St. David's Lodge, WBro John resides in Aberystwyth, Wales. Unfortunately, due to his age, he was unable to attend the Lodge meeting arranged to mark this significant anniversary.

On the occasion of his 60th anniversary, WBro John received congratulatory letters from the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, WBro Stuart Sutherland Boyd, and the Group Chairman, WBro John Tyrer, recognising his many years of commitment and service to Freemasonry.

Subsequently, he was visited at his home by the Secretary of St. David's Lodge, WBro Colin Clark, who had the pleasure of presenting him with his 60th Anniversary Certificate on behalf of the Lodge.

This notable achievement reflects a lifetime of dedication to the Craft, and the Brethren of St. David's Lodge extend their warmest congratulations and best wishes to WBro John on this exceptional occasion.

Members of the Ashmolean Golf Society met for their annual game and social on Wednesday 22nd July. After a cloudy start the sun came out and the heat was on for the intrepid players as they managed the contrasting landscape of lush greens and parched, near desert like fairways.
The individual winner was John Palfreyman with 37 points, his team D won the team prize and the longest drive was won by Travellers 4679 Secretary Brian Potter, putting the younger players to shame. Nearest the pin went to Danny Mills who was a short distance closer than our own Group Golf Maestro Dave Goddard.
A fish and chip supper and raffle rounded off a splendid day and raised £100 for Pancreatic Cancer UK in memory of our own Brian Wilson who sadly passed away in February this year. Here's to next year...come and join us and also support the Group Golf Day which will be in early June next year.
