At out last monthly session of the Young Friends of Woolston Park, we went outdoors to do some Himalayan Balsam removal (otherwise known as Balsam Bashing). The area we picked was near to the Kingfisher play area and the main path leading to Holes Lane. An hours work and many thousands of plants removed. Well done and thank you to the gang for their tremendous and enthusiastic work. The ongoing battle against this invasive species continues although some say it is good for bees and pollination. Prior to starting we checked the area for nesting birds as we didn't want to disturb any, thus the reason why we worked in the chosen area

A huge thank you to members of Stantec who worked on Woolston Park as volunteers last week during community week. This company supports the Friends of Woolston Park each year and has done so the last four years in June each week.

They work hard for all of the time that they are with us and carry out work on the Park directed by the Friends of Woolston Park. This year they carried out work clearing the edge of some of the footpaths, brush clearning down the bridal way and around our woodland after the area being checked that we had no nesting birds.

We hope to again see you next year and long may you continue to support us on our local park

Tuesday night 16thJune saw the annual Warrington Roadrunners 10km run through and around Woolston Park.

Three hundred plus runners set off in the early evening on this great local event

Whilst standing at the Rangers Cabin selling hot and cold drinks and sweets in support of the Friends of Woolston Park and Bruche KFC, I was able to take a few photos as they ran past.

Well done to all the runners for taking part and Warrington Roadrunners who organised the event and we will see you again next year on Wednesday June 16th 2027 when the next race will take part

After a damp start to the day yesteraday the sun came out and the afternoon we had a group of volunteers from a company called Stantec. They were divided up into a couple of groups with a member of the friends with them and they did a wonderful job of woodland clearing and path clearing. The main path down from the carpark to the pond has widened by around 4ft in places, which was amazing they were all very hard working and were a lovely cheerly bunch. I wish to thank them for their hard work and support. This was the first of hopefully 3 sessions this week if the weather cooperates if you see them as your walking in the park come and say hello .

It was great to see members of the 27th Warrington East Beaver Scouts who are based in Woolston, making good use recently of the Nature Activity trail which can be found in Woolston Park.

Twelve nature themed activity posts are there to be used by families, educational or other groups of children such as this local Beaver Scouts group and they show birds, insects and leaves of trees that are found on the Park.

The Nature Activity Trail leaflet is available from the Rangers Cabin or our site on Facebook

It is a great free activity that can easily take up to an hour to complete and all you need is an assortment of different colour crayons and some white paper for those taking part

We do hope that the Beavers had a great time!

We had the Woolston Rovers under 7's Rugby team holding a sponsored litter picking event on Woolston Park, the adjacent sports field and also around Monks Sports Club in April and I now have these wonderful photographs to share with you. This dedicated team of young people, their parents and coaches raised the incredible amount of £1180 for their team, which will go towards their running costs.

Their aim was not only to clean up our local area but to also teach their young people to respect the. environment

They did a wonderful job collecting 8 bags of rubbish. Thank you to you all. What a wonderful job.

Thank you again to the volunteers from Serco who attended the Park on Tuesday last week to give time carrying out litter picking, planting bulbs and cutting back some of the bushes in the Jubilee garden. Thank you also to my fellow volunteer from the Friends that gave up her time to support the volunteers during the session.
