Patrick Dinsmore Memorial Trust

Patrick Dinsmore Memorial Trust In May 2012 The Patrick Dinsmore Trust was established, our aim to raise awareness of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS).

The charity has been set up in memory of Patrick Dinsmore who suddenly passed away whilst playing a Gaelic Football match in August 2010 at only 16 years of age. Did You Know?

- The Majority of SADS conditions are inherited.

- The number of young people who die of these dieases are approximately: 12 every week in the UK; 1 every week in N. Ireland; 80-100 every year in the Republic of Ireland.

-The usual symptoms which indicate one of these conditions are: fainting, dizzy spells, palpitations, chest pains, being out of breath inappropriately for amount/type of exercise.

-People who have these diseases, even people who die of them, havevery often no symptoms.

-Death very often happens instantly; people are very often dead before they hit the ground; their death nis said to be like a light going out.

-In almost all cases of a severe or fatal attack, there is only 5-10 minutes to save a person, CPR or the use of a defibrillator may work, but this is not guaranteed.

- The most common types of these diseases in Ireland are: Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy; Long OT Syndrome, 1,2 and 3; various other types of Cardiomyopathy; Brugada Syndrome; Wolfe-Parkinson-White Syndrome.

-Not all people who have these conditions die of them, or are seriously affected by them.

-The only way to tell if anyone has one of these conditions or, to what degree of severity, is screening. If you would like to make a donation to the Patrick Dinsmore Trust or if you have an enquiry on an event please contact Aisling Dinsmore on [email protected]
