October is a time to come together and raise awareness and effects of this devastating disease. Why not pop along to our Cancer support chat cafe on the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month - 10.00-12.00 and enjoy a cuppa and biscuits and a chance to have a chat.

On Friday, 14 August, Sue, Marion and John, Trustees of Open Door Warminster, welcomed Sean, Captain of Warminster Bowls Club, to the Friday Bereavement Cafe, where he presented them with a cheque from members of the Bowls Club.

He explained that as the Captain this year it was his decision to donate funds to a local charity supporting members of the local community, in both town and the surrounding villages. He believed that Open Door Warminster provided such a service by welcoming people to their Cafes at the Athenaeum. On Thursdays to the Social Cafe where folk on their own could get together over a coffee to chat. On the second and fourth Fridays the Bereavement Cafe enabling grieving people to talk and share, whilst on the first and third Fridays, the Cancer Support Cafe is held for anyone affected by cancer. On two Monday evenings a month the Prostate Support Group meet, enabling men to come together, chat and support each other.
Each Cafe is free, open to all and Sue thanked Sean for the donation towards the costs incurred. Funding our cafes is an important aspect of our role to ensure we can continue to offer this vital service.

The Open Door Chat Cafe is held in Warminster at the Athenaeum. The Cancer Support Cafe, will be hosting a Cancer Support Worker Team Leader, from Salisbury Hospital on 3rd October. Visitors will be able to learn more about the cafe and the informal support we offer to all affected by cancer, including family and friends. The Team Leader will chat to our visitors individually, providing an opportunity for them to discover more about the work of her team within the hospital.

This opportunity to chat with a Cancer Support Worker is very fitting as October is Breast Cancer Support month.
Many of our volunteers at the Cancer Support Cafe have lived experience of cancer.

Open Door Warminster were one of the nominated charities by the Woolstore Theatre in Codford, during their production of Calendar Girls earlier in the month. There are calendars for sale at a cost of £10 , all proceeds to go to the chosen charities.
