Last Thursday, a group from Mission Motorsport community enjoyed a unique behind-the-scenes tour of the Millington Engines engineering facility.
After viewing Merlin, Griffon and other German engines in various states of restoration, recovered weaponry, and an incredible collection of artefacts that have been donated and loaned to the museum over the years, we were shown around the various machine shops with a detailed explanation of each stage of the engine-building process and what each machine did. It was fascinating to see the craftsmanship and precision involved, and extremely interesting to any petrolhead.
After a coffee break, we were taken to one of the hangars. The door slowly lifted to reveal something truly special – a fully working and taxiable Harrier Jump Jet!
As one attendee summed it up:
"A huge thank you to Mission Motorsport for organising such a memorable visit and to Roy for sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm throughout the day. It was a fascinating tour led by someone who is clearly passionate about anything and everything engine-based. The museum is a hidden treasure"
A fantastic day of engineering, aviation history and motorsport heritage.
