You’re never too old for Duplo, and you’re never too young for dominoes 🙌

Once the singing and dancing wraps up in the first half of our sessions, the “meet and mingle” time begins, and that’s when the real cross-generational friendships form. Watching a toddler patiently hand a domino to a resident, or seeing an older adult get genuinely invested in building a tower out of plastic blocks, is the absolute best 💜

It turns out you don’t need a lot of words to connect—just a little imagination, a cup of tea, and some shared playtime

If you and your little one would love to join our village and make some wonderful new friends, we’d love to welcome you. Press link to find your nearest Songs & Smiles session 💖

Volunteering as a Group Welcomer at Songs & Smiles is so much more than just helping out for an hour — it’s about finding your own little community 🌍

Suzanne’s experience says it all. From building confidence and making fast friends with parents and
care home staff, to that unforgettable feeling when a resident with memory issues greets you with a familiar smile in the corridor. It’s amazing how much joy one morning can bring into your whole week, especially when you’re working alongside one of our brilliant Leaders (shout out to all of you! Thank you for all that you give every single week đŸ«¶)

If you’re looking for a way to give something back to your wider community (and bring a lot of purpose to your week!), we would love to have you on the team 🌈

This is how the magic of storytelling can help the smallest voices find their strength đŸ’«

Through You, Me, Us, school staff shared how some of the children who were usually the most reserved in a big classroom began to shine in our small, welcoming group. Watching a child who typically stays in the background suddenly put their hand up, volunteer for an acting role, or proudly hold a prop is what this programme was all about

One little one with a speech and language delay became “very talkative” as the story unfolded, eager to share everything they were seeing and feeling 💖

By creating a space where younger ones and older adults can connect through art and imagination, we aren’t just reading books, we’re building the confidence that helps a child say, I can do this”

Beyond the paper and the paint, real friendships are forming. It’s about the excitement of seeing
a friend’s pet, the pride in making something "special" for someone else, and the simple, pure
joy of a new friendship with someone from a different generation

Whether it's Mike, Jean, Mary, or Betty, these older friends are making a massive impact on
these young lives through Crafting Connections💌

When Songs & Smiles launched Acacia Care Centre in South Norwood earlier this year, Judith was quiet and disengaged
Over the weeks, she has become more and more fond of the sessions. During the singing and
movement, she’s always leaned forward, gesturing to and encouraging the closest child. She wears a contented smile and has lots to say to the families when it's time to socialise

For Judith, only a quarter of a minute having a cuddle with a little one is what makes the difference! And yet the impact on her lasts far beyond that 🌈

Thank you to all our fabulous regulars at Acacia! We love getting to know you and making a difference in older peoples’ lives with you 💖
