Looks like the residents have had a super creative time with their craft packs at The White House Nursing Home!

Residents crafting activities have been "out of this world" recently. To celebrate World Space Week, they created their own colourful space scenes inspired by the history of the first astronauts in space. From the moon and outer space, to astronauts and the American flag, there was a lot to include! Everyone brought their own ideas to life and had fun exploring an ‘out of this world’ theme 👩‍🚀🌎

We also held another Crafting Connection session, which happens monthly, for residents and children to connect through letters and artwork courtesy of The Together Project. This month’s theme was Autumn, and residents created colourful pictures featuring autumn leaves and tiny insects 🍁🐞

As part of the project, residents also write letters to the children, creating an ongoing friendship through their shared messages. Zia has enjoyed exchanging letters with Emma, and it has been wonderful to see the friendship developing - they were even featured in the Crafting Connections newsletter! 💌

It’s so wonderful to see what happens when people throw themselves into Songs & Smiles!
Sally, one of our talented leaders, always goes above and beyond to make every single one of
her sessions unforgettable. She brings props, dresses up, and gives 100% of her energy and
dedication to the families and residents who attend. You’re incredible Sally!

We recently had a 60s theme week, and we think the outfits at Sally’s sessions were super
groovy! The singing was just as fun too, with classics like The Beatles’ ‘Can't Buy Me Love’ and a themed twist on the wheels on the bus going round and groovy.

In the same week, some eggs hatched at Spring Grove, one of the homes Sally leads at! After
Songs & Smiles, the children got to stroke the day old chicks. They were so gentle, and the
chicks stayed calm in their little hands 🥹

The fun and joy created at Songs & Smiles has no bounds, and Sally’s sessions show us this
time and time again. Thank you again Sally, and thank you to the wonderful Activities Coordinator Tyra at Spring Grove!

What a beautiful boy! It’s so lovely when care home staff with little ones get to take part in Songs & Smiles. It reminds us what a beautiful cycle of connection and joy by creating these communities 🌈

Our home manager, Vicky, brought her baby boy, Loki, in today to join in with Songs and Smiles and Pat enjoyed lots of cuddles 🥰

For International Day Of Older Persons today, we asked some of the residents from Songs & Smiles a question: What would you tell yourself if your children were little again?

Their answers range from moving reminders to treasure every moment, to practical survival tips, to some totally unique, if offbeat, reflections. If there’s one thing that care home residents have taught us, it’s that age brings the gift of unapologetic and at times brutal honesty! 🤪

Our older generations’ life experiences, wisdom, wit and irreverence are invaluable to our lives, which is why we wanted to
celebrate them with you today through this post, and hopefully every day through our
programmes 🌈

Thank you to the residents of Acacia care home, Appleby Blue United St Saviour's Charity, Alexander Care Home and Rowanweald for sharing your tuppence-worth with us! 🫶
