Three years ago, Eleanor lost three of her four grandparents all in the same year. That meant
her baby daughter, Rosie, never got to meet them.
In September last year, when Rosie was just two months old, Eleanor found out about Songs &
Smiles in Otley. Her late grandma and grandad lived in a care home and she knew they would
have loved a group like this, so she booked on as a gesture to their memory.
She knew Rosie was going to miss out on so much of the loving presence that her related
great-grandparents would have brought, so she thought this group might give Rosie a bit of that
experience back. But Eleanor didn’t realise just how much the session would give back to her
and Rosie.
Throughout this past year of Songs & Smiles, the sessions have supported Rosie’s development in every area. She gained confidence rolling, crawling, and standing, and became more sociable every day.
The biggest milestone came with Rosie’s very first words: “tap tap” and “pop”! Eleanor swears
by tapping the claves and popping the bubbles as the origins of these first words.
Alongside this, the new relationships they’ve created have given them so much. Eleanor shared: “The residents make us smile as much as we make them smile. It's our favourite time of the week.” While also sharing that the sessions leader, Charlotte, is an important part of why theycome back week after week.
“You are amazing…you’re just such a wonderful person and we love you!”
Eleanor and Rosie got to experience love and joy at Songs & Smiles - and we’re sure you can
too!
