The Hornbeam Centre and Cafe

The Hornbeam Centre and Cafe Community organisation promoting low-cost low-impact living for the Waltham Forest community. The Hornbeam is organised and run by its community.

Named after the locally renowned hornbeam tree, the Hornbeam is a community cafe, providing a base for local food and environmental education projects, as well as a space for people to find out what’s going on locally and how to get involved. Events and classes are held both at our E17 cafe and at the Learning Lodge, on the beautiful Pimp Hall Park nature reserve E4. We're a venue for lots of amaz

ing local activities day and night - usually with food involved but not always - just lots of buzzing community activity!

From our friends .wf We enter a new season of Feeding the Soil:

Poetic Justice: International Women’s Day Edition

“I am grateful to fate for three gifts: to have been born a woman, from the working class, and from an oppressed nation. And the clouded azure of being three times a rebel.”
— Maria Mercè Marçal

How does feminist poetry speak to us today? How can art build individual and collective resilience—and open space for dialogue in times of political polarisation?

In this workshop we’ll read and discuss poems by three women poets, followed by some gentle free-writing inspired by our conversation.

All are welcome. No poetry or writing experience needed.

We are a wide church of womanhood: trans, non-binary and genderqueer folk are warmly welcome, as are cis people. The toilet is all-gender and fully accessible.

The Hornbeam Centre, 11th March. Food Provided.

📣 ONLY THREE DAYS LEFT OF OUR FUNDRAISER! 📣

Please donate to help HEET get more people out of fuel poverty this winter!

Why do we need your support now?

Many people in Enfield and Waltham Forest are in fuel poverty. This means they are living in cold homes that are affecting their health and facing bills rising faster than their incomes. Many struggle to afford gas, electricity or water bills, or owe money to their energy suppliers. The number of people in fuel poverty is rising.

We have been working in north-east London for 25 years to make people’s homes more energy efficient, warmer and less damp, and to reduce the cost of residents’ energy bills. But it is increasingly hard to raise the money to do the work we do, as demand for our services increases, and there is less funding available.

We want to continue to support as many people as we can. Clients value our work and the care we give;

“HEET helped me with insulation that keeps the house warm, the house remains warm for a good length of time, it’s amazing.” Donna E8
