As National Volunteer Week comes to a close, we'd like to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to every single WBSC volunteer πŸ’œ

From supporting events and projects, to sharing skills, time and experience, our volunteers help make so much of what we do possible. Their commitment, kindness and community spirit have played a huge part in the impact WBSC continues to make across Walsall and beyond.

This week, we had the pleasure of celebrating our volunteers together and reflecting on the difference they make every day. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, share stories, and recognise the people who give so much to support others.

To all of our volunteers, past and present, thank you! Your dedication, passion and belief in our work continue to strengthen our community.

Mr Pemberton has been such an asset to the WBSC team, we're grateful to have him!! πŸ’œ

Mr Oris Pemberton has been a valued volunteer at WBSC for nearly 19 years, offering steady support through administrative tasks and hands on help around the office. He is consistently punctual, reliable, and a genuine joy to have as part of the team.
He takes real pride in his day to day responsibilities and approaches every task with care and commitment. His contribution is deeply valued, and the impact of his support is felt across the organisation, helping everything run smoothly behind the scenes.
Thank you, Mr Pemberton, for your dedication over the years and for the difference you continue to make.

🚒 Windrush Wednesday

Did you know that before it became known as the Empire Windrush, the ship's original name was MV Monte Rosa?

The ship would later become one of the most recognised symbols of post-war migration to Britain, carrying hundreds of Caribbean passengers whose contributions helped shape the country we know today.

Every Windrush story is part of a much bigger history of resilience, community, and cultural impact.

What's one Windrush fact that surprised you when you first learned it? Let us know in the comments and we may feature it in our next post! πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

"What happens to the child left behind?"

When the Windrush generation arrived in Britain, many came first to build a life and secure work before sending for their children. But what was life like for the children who stayed behind?

Children raised by grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbours, and family friends. Children who sometimes waited years to be reunited with parents they barely remembered. Children who one day received a letter telling them they were leaving everything they knew behind and travelling to Britain.

πŸŽ™οΈGaarn A Foreign is a brand new podcast from presenter Nikki Tapper, created in partnership with the Walsall Windrush Sisters project.

Across the series, Nikki speaks with four women who lived that experience, sharing deeply personal stories of separation, migration, identity, belonging, and reunion.

These are powerful stories that form an important part of our collective history, and we can't wait to share them with you.
