Birchills Jamia Masjid Ghausia

Birchills Jamia Masjid Ghausia Sunni Mosque The history of the JAMIA MASJID GHAUSIA, Birchills stretches back to the late 1950's. We have a beautiful and adequate place of worship.

In 1959, a group of Muslims, different in terms of background, but one common belief: To provide the (small at the time) Walsall Muslim Community with a place to worship Almight ALLAH (SWT). The group were known as the "Muslim Welfare Society" and operated out of 56 South Street, Walsall. This remained adequate for a number of years, until the local council demolished the building. This coincided

with the split of the society in 1970, and members went their seperate ways. This paved the way for the formation on the Pakistan Muslim Welfare Association (PMWA), started by Haji Mohammed Saif Ali, at a house in Dalkeith Street, Walsall, aided by Haji M Zaman, Haji M Najeeb and Haji M Sidique who were all members of the comittee. In 1971, Khwaja Mohammed Aslam MBE, took over as president of the PMWA and continued the work started by his predecessors. Muslims attended Dalkeith street for a number of years before it became obvious that a new larger location was required to accomodate the evergrowing Muslim Community in Birchills. In approximately 1978, the current location where the masjid now stands, was identified by Khwaja M Aslam MBE, and with the help of Mr Syed Sultan Shah, Mr Younis Bhatti and Mr Izzat Bhatti, it was pursued with endeavour and persistance. It was in 1982, when the purchase was finally completed, with a lot of the help from the local council. As the site was to be used by the community for worship, it only cost 25% of the actual valuation, meaning the site was obtained for £7500. This was a significant milestone in the history of this Masjid. In 1983, Haji Mohammed Aashiq took over as president, and laid the foundation for the Masjid structure as it stands today. After completion in the mid 1980's, a community hall was added in the late 1980's. Back to the 2012 we have purchased the building next door, Alhamdu-Lillah. The hard work by our elders in the last 50 years has paved the way for our future muslims. With the continuing support and Dua of our Elders/Brothers/Sisters and youngsters, we will continue to work with full comittment to improve the Masjid INSHA-ALLAH.
