Our council doesn't publicly acknowledge which herbicides they use. Our requests for information have gone unanswered. We are possibly asking the wrong people in the wrong manner so will reaserch and send out new requests this week.

More toxic than you think!!!

Twenty per cent of suicides are a result of pesticide poisoning, but bans on highly hazardous pesticides can reduce these risks.

Councillor Edward Lee / Councillor Rose Martin / Councillor Gary Perry.

I am writing to you as a local resident who is very concerned that the council may be using pesticides in public spaces such as parks, playgrounds, cemeteries, pavements, and housing estates.

There are plenty of non-chemical alternatives available and almost half of UK councils are now taking some kind of action to reduce or end their pesticide use. Countries such as France and Denmark have banned pesticides from villages, towns and cities nationwide. They are proving every day that it is possible for public spaces to look well-cared for without the use of toxic chemicals.

The vast majority of pesticides used by the council are herbicides (w**dkillers) applied almost entirely for cosmetic reasons. Regular exposure to even small amounts of pesticides has the potential to harm human health, with children and pregnant people particularly at risk. These chemicals also cause environmental damage, contaminating water and removing much-needed habitat relied upon by wildlife such as bees and birds.

Pesticide Action Network UK (PAN UK) has a wealth of free resources to help local authorities go pesticide-free, including a “three-year phase out plan” which has already been proven to be effective by the many councils that have adopted it. PAN UK have also conducted the largest survey to date on pesticide use by local authorities. See the results for 2024 here.

I would be hugely grateful if you could please respond to my email to let me know if the council is currently using pesticides and whether there is a reduction plan in place.

Many thanks for your time. I do hope that, together, we can achieve a pesticide-free local environment in which both humans and wildlife thrive!

Waiting patiently on their responses.

Hi 👋 Im Neville i am a postman. But i am also concerned about the use of herbicides and pesticides both within our communities and in modern day agriculture.

I set up this page to allow people to be informed of the risks associated with the use of these chemicals and to let anyone that is also concerned become apart of the solution.

I have email MP's and local authority figures including councillors and local authority leaders in the past to little response.

Due to lack of time i have failed in following these up and holding people to account.

If anyone would like to get involved in an effort to keep our children safe and our communities chemical free please get in touch.

I intend to use this page as a public record of communication sent, meetings that have been held and the responses from out local council and representatives.

Its time to make a change.

Repost:

The largest ever UK-wide survey on pesticide use by local authorities has revealed that councils used more than 354 tonnes of pesticides in our towns and cities in 2024.

Roughly equivalent to 23 double-decker buses, the majority of these toxic chemicals are used to remove unwanted plants, usually for cosmetic reasons.
Data shows that the w**dkiller glyphosate is by far the most widely used pesticide in urban areas.
Glyphosate has been linked repeatedly to cancers and other diseases.

A couple of recent post that caught our attention reposted here for you all.

We’ve read ’s statement on their glyphosate usage but we want to have a conversation about how it can be reduced further and how we can keep our communities safe.

We are a local independent pressure group in the Walsall Borough we work to help establish the aims of The Pesticide Action Network.

Whatever your political or world views your invited to take part. This affects us all.

The Pesticide Action Network are the only UK charity focused on tackling the problems caused by pesticides and promoting safe and sustainable alternatives to pesticides in agriculture, urban areas, homes and gardens.

Their work includes campaigning for change in policy and practices at home and overseas, coordinating projects internationally which help smallholder farming communities escape ill-health and poverty caused by pesticides, and contributing their wealth of scientific and technical expertise to the work of other organisations who share our aims.
