🌳 ASK THE COMMUNITY: FREE SUMMER DAYS OUT! ☀️💙
The summer holidays can be expensive, especially when you're trying to keep children and young people entertained for several weeks.
So we're starting a FREE PLACES CHALLENGE! 🎉
Parents, carers and families...
💬 What's your favourite FREE place to visit?
We'd love to create a community list of places that other SEND families can discover too.
Here are a few ideas to get us started around Walsall and the surrounding area:
🌳 Walsall Arboretum – plenty of open space, gardens, play areas, wildlife and places to explore. There is also a free splash pad during weekends, school holidays and bank holidays until the end of August (weather dependent).
🌿 Park Lime Pits Local Nature Reserve – a great place for a nature walk, spotting wildlife and getting some fresh air.
🌲 Brownhills Common – open countryside and a chance to explore nature at your own pace.
🌼 Pelsall North Common & Nest Common – another option for getting outdoors, exploring and enjoying nature.
🌳 Barr Beacon – enjoy the views, open space and a change of scenery without paying for an attraction.
🌲 Fibbersley Nature Reserve, Willenhall – a local green space for exploring and connecting with nature.
🎨 The New Art Gallery Walsall – admission is free, making it an option for a creative and quieter day out.
📚 Walsall Libraries – libraries across the borough offer activities, reading opportunities and somewhere to spend time without the pressure of a busy attraction.
💦 Willenhall Memorial Park – another Walsall green space with a free splash pad available during the summer season.
And don't forget that Walsall Council has a Summer Activity Programme running during the school holidays, including free activities such as woodland walks, butterfly counts, pond dipping, outdoor art and some sports activities.
