Pleasant walk with the group around Walsall Arboretum this morning. We even spotted some early snowdrops showing their faces. Thank you for organising Janet and we almost finished before the rain started!! 😞👍👍 ...

Greenway Walk Leaders Group

Yesterday, Wednesday 13th December, saw our second walk leaders development session followed by a short walk to the Mill Lane nature reserves (we litter picked on the way!!). A review of the actions from our first meeting demonstrated that we are making good progress with developing the walks programme. We are still waiting for a date from Walsall Council for our formal walk leader training but have set some provisional dates for walks in 2024. These will be on a Wednesdays or Sundays each month. We'll publish the dates for your new diaries once we have a training date confirmed by the Council.

Walsall Healthy Spaces are pleased to announce that improvement works have begun at Victory Pools at Reedswood Park.

The area in Reedswood Park in Walsall will be transformed into a thriving haven for amphibians and other wildlife after a £70,000 Community Green Grant from the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).

The West Midlands Combined Authority grant to the Froglife Trust, a national charity working to conserve the UK’s declining amphibian and reptile species, will support its Coalface to Wildspace project, restoring the park’s pools and creating two new ones making them accessible to visitors.

Working with Froglife will also establish two neighbourhood wildlife corridors with small ponds, winter shelters for amphibians and reptiles, insect homes, toad abodes, bird and bat boxes, wildflower meadows, and eye-catching sculptures.

The WMCA grant will also fund wildlife gardening workshops and pond dipping sessions for school children.
