Last weekend was a busy weekend for Walsall Sea Cadets, while most of the Unit was at our residential boating weekend in Burton, 3 of our cadets - OC Sana, CFCs Rayhan & Baylen were down in London to watch the Colonel's Review of Trooping the Colour in preparation for this weekend's main parade, with other members of Mercia District Sea Cadets.

Despite the weather it looks like they had a great time!

As well as this, OC Brodie travelled to Lowestoft where he joined TS Jack Petchey for a week with Sea Cadets Offshore!

Well done to all the cadets who represented T.S. Vanguard this weekend!

🛶 Unit Boating Weekend 🚣‍♂️

Over the weekend, T.S. Vanguard held a Residential weekend over at Burton Sea Cadets

This weekend allowed both our Cadets & CFAV's to begin or develop their boating skills with both rowing and paddlesports being on offer. Some cadets even managed to do some Powerboating practice on Saturday!

We were also able to use our 2 brand new double kayaks over the weekend for the first time! Which we received as part of the Better Youth Spaces Grant from the Social Investment Business, our Commanding Officer & Unit Training Officer even managed to try them out themselves!

A big thank you to Burton for allowing us to use their facilities, and to all the staff that helped plan and deliver the weekend!

BZ to all the cadets for their hardwork towards their boating qualifications this weekend!

🎉 Volunteers Week 2026 🎉

As this year's volunteers week comes to a close, we would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all of our Adult Volunteers here at T.S. Vanguard that help provide the best Cadet Experience that we can for all our cadets!

Whether it's helping provide refreshments and food at Unit events, helping with admin tasks, fixing things, instructing cadets, helping out on the Unit Management Committee or supporting cadets at events and competitions and travelling across the country to do so and so much more, we could not run without you!

Some of our CFAV's have been involved in the Unit and Sea Cadets for many years. Some of them were even cadets in the Unit or elsewhere in the corps, who chose to stay on upon turning 18!

🏆 BZ to all of you for your hard work and dedication! 🏆

On Tuesday we were joined by the Mercia District Sea Cadets District Officer, LT CDR (SCC) Burley RNR, for our Ceremonial Divisions.

After inspecting the Unit, the DO took time to speak to both staff and cadets and even tried making his own geodesic dome with our Junior Sea Cadets!

Well done to all those cadets who recieved awards, which included: Swim Tests, Waterborne Tasters, BTEC Level 1, Offshore Qualifications and much more!

As well as awarding cadets with qualifications, we also like to recognise the hard work that our Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) put in to ensure the Unit and its activities run smoothly and safely.

Therefore, we were also pleased to award both our Unit Training Officer - PO (SCC) Perry and Detachment Commander - SGT (SCC) Perry with their 6 Years Good Conduct Certificate.

This week is also Volunteer's Week, so during evening colours some of our CFAVs took roles normally held by cadets to see how much of the evening colours routine they actually remember!

Over the weekend, our Royal Marines Cadets and those sailors that went on Easter Camp took part in a fieldcraft weekend, making the most of the beautiful weather that we had in the West Midlands. ☀️🥾

A big thanks to The Phoenix Collegiate CCF for inviting us along to participate!

Cadets and staff took part in a wide range of fieldcraft lessons, ranging from: Range cards to patrolling. With Cadets even getting the chance to practice their camouflage and concealment skills!

Our Unit Training Officer, PO (SCC) Perry even had the chance to try his camouflage skills out. (We're not sure he's even in the last picture)

BZ to all the cadets for their hard work this weekend and the CFAV's that supported!

A big thank you to our Commanding Officer and 1st Lieutenant, who on Thursday Night collected our two brand new double kayaks from Arrowcraft over at Sneyd Wharf.

These kayaks, as well as our 3 brand new canoes plus even more kayaks we are yet to collect, were made possible due to the funding we recieved from the Better Youth Spaces Grant from the Social Investment Business

These paddle craft will go along way in providing a high quality paddlesports experience for both our cadets & CFAV's as well as allowing us to train for and participate in a wider range of Paddlesports disciplines in our competitions, starting with the Mercia District Sea Cadets Combined Regatta next month!
