Youth of Walsall (YOW) was set up in 2011 by a group of young people wanting to make a difference. YOW is designed to campaign for the improvement of the lives of young people in Walsall. We aim to update you what is happening and we aim to get young people into discussion. YOW get involved in a number of activties, from taking part in workshops, attending fortnightly meetings to planning projects

and events. We also have links with the local council, UK Youth Parliament and local projects and boards in which we get involved in on a regular basis.

Our Story

Youth of Walsall (YOW) is a youth cabinet group for 11 to 18 year olds in Walsall, set up in 2011 by a group of young people who wanted to make a difference. We currently meet every Thursday at MyPlace Youth Centre in Bescot, which is a 10 to 15 minutes drive from the town centre. Our meetings start at 6pm and finish at 8pm.

We have our say on a variety of issues and topics, take part in local projects, meet key decision makers and represent young people locally, regionally and nationally. We aim to:

Listen to and represent the young people of Walsall.

Work with young people, youth workers, professionals and practitioners to create partnerships.

Encourage more young people to join us by representing their area or school and having their voice heard.

We work with Walsall Council, UK Youth Parliament, British Youth Council, the emergency services and local projects, organisations and boards across Walsall.

Previous projects, campaigns and activities have included Activate Against Hate, an anti-bullying debate, our survey “What Do YOW Think?”, Party at the Bandstand and Takeover Day Q&A.

In recent months, we have rolled out our Real Knives Real Lives knife awareness campaign, which has been recognised by professionals, local groups, elected members and many others. The campaign has also gained media coverage locally.
