As the temperature rises, don't forget about home security! ☀️

🔒 When popping out, always lock your windows and doors. Don't give burglars an easy entry point.

🚪 Avoid leaving doors wide open and unattended, as it can be an invitation for opportunistic burglars.

👀 Keep your valuables out of sight. Close blinds or curtains to prevent prying eyes from scouting your belongings.

From Walsall Police

We've seen overall crime in Walsall drop in the last 12 months - with significantly fewer incidents of thefts from shops, theft of motor vehicles, assault with injury and harassment.

Across our town, for the year to March 2026, overall crime has been reduced by 2.34% compared to the same period the previous year.

Compared with the previous 12 months, the number of shop theft offences dropped by 15.68% while incidents causing public fear, alarm or distress fell by 12.85%.

Theft from motor vehicles has also fallen by 8.84% while harassment dropped by 8.44%.

However, we do not under-estimate the impact crime has on those who suffer it and the communities who live with it.

Our local neighbourhood teams, response officers, investigation and public protection units, who are on duty every day of the year, are combatting it with targeted activities and specialist operations.

Chief Superintendent Sam Batey, from Walsall Police, said: "These figures represent fewer victims, fewer businesses affected by crimes and safer communities across Walsall. That matters.

“Crime reduction does not happen by chance. It comes from relentless focus, targeted policing, strong partnerships and officers and staff who are committed to protecting the public every single day.

“We have taken a clear problem-solving approach, prevention activity and visible enforcement to tackle the crimes that matter most to communities particularly shop theft, anti-social behaviour and violence.

“But we are not complacent. While these results are encouraging, our focus remains firmly on continuing to cut crime, pursue offenders and maintain public confidence."

Operation Marigold, set up to combat shop thefts, has been hugely successfully with a dedicated business crime officer in place in Walsall working closely with shops and businesses, as well as partners.

The business crime specialist officer works to identify, apprehend and jail shop thieves.

We also have a dedicated Problem Solving and Priorities Team tackling issues which impact our communities including anti-social behaviour.

The team recently teamed up with partners including Walsall Council to set up the new Prevention Hub, based at the Civic Centre. The Prevention hub is the first of its kind in our force.

The Prevention Hub includes a dedicated anti-social behaviour officer, problem solving officers, early help officers and school intervention and prevention officers. It also includes an under 25’s serious violence co-ordinator, business crime co-ordinator and road harm prevention officer.

Each area of Walsall has a Dedicated Neighbourhood Officer (DNO) with the local policing teams also offering a visual presence as they work alongside other departments such as the Project Guardian Taskforce, who specialise in tackling serious youth violence and knife crime.

We're here for you 24/7 and the more information we receive, the better we can address issues which matter and concern you.

In an emergency you should call us on 999, but in a non-emergency we're available via 101 or Live Chat on our website.

This report is worth taking note of, especially elderly and vulnerable residents.

We have arrested four men in connection with courier fraud.

Officers from our Regional Economic Crime Team arrested the four men from addresses across Smethwick yesterday (Thursday) in connection with a series of courier fraud offences across the country.

The four men, aged 18, 19, 21 and 22, were all bailed with conditions while our investigation continues.

Detective Inspector Jon Green, from our Regional Economic Crime Unit, said: "Courier fraud offenders specifically target vulnerability in society with the sole intent of financial gain. They give no consideration to the long term emotional and psychological harm they cause to victims.

"Yesterday's enforcement is a significant step in what is a very complex ongoing investigation. We want to raise awareness for this offending and work with the public to protect people in the community and prevent further offences."

Courier fraud occurs when criminals contact you by phone and convince you to hand over money, expensive items or your debit/credit card under false pretences. They will typically pretend to be in positions of trust (such as Police officers or banking officials) and will prey on the victims trust or fear of loss to convince them to hand over items to a courier attending their home address.

Our crime prevention advice is:

- Be sceptical of unexpected calls, texts, or visits, even from those who claim to be police officers or bank officials. The police or your bank would NEVER ask you to withdraw cash or hand over items, for any reason.
- Don’t be afraid to stop the conversation with a brief ‘no, thank you’.
- Never give personal information, such as your date of birth or bank details, to unexpected callers.
- Remember, criminals will use authority, urgency or threats to cause panic and fear. When you are under stress you are less likely to think clearly about your actions.
- If callers suggest you call your local police or bank to check who they are, use another phone or hang up and ensure the line has been fully disconnected by phoning a friend or relative first, or by waiting at least five minutes. Otherwise, you may think you’ve phoned a number, but you’re simply talking to the fraudsters again. This is a common tactic used by fraudsters.
- If a caller asks you to type your bank PIN number into your telephone handset - do not do this, as fraudsters can use technology to identify the numbers.
- Look out for elderly and vulnerable people in your community and speak to them about this threat.

Stay Alert Everyone

Spring time is the start of “Rogue Traders” coming round trying to CON you out of your money by suggesting there are jobs and repairs on your property, in the garden, the drive, your building, roof, gutters, that they can fix for a modest price!

But be aware as often the work they suggest needs attention does not! Equally the cost tends to go up and up as they find additional work that they say needs doing for a variety of reasons.

They will call at your door and say:

We were just passing and..
We are working in the area and..
We have been working at Number 29 and wanted to enquire if you..
We notice your gutters are damaged and we can…
Or simply do you need any jobs doing..

The list is endless, so don’t get caught out and NEVER engage with these people just say “No thank you”.
They can be very persistent so stand your ground and if you feel threatened ring 101 or even 999.

These people do their research and know who to target! Usually the elderly, disabled and vulnerable. So please be aware and watch out for any such callers going around and calling on elderly neighbours.

If you do want a job doing do your research and get a couple of quotes to do the work.

Stay Safe!
