As being reported on the news, this week during the heatwave, tragically several young lives have already been lost in water-related incidents - devastating families, friends and local communities.
With the hot weather expected to continue over the next few days (and the main summer months ahead), parents, carers and young people are being urged to understand the dangers of inland waterways.
Even when the air temperature feels very warm, open water can remain dangerously cold. Cold water shock can affect anyone within seconds, causing breathing difficulties, panic and loss of muscle control - even for strong swimmers.
Parents and carers are being urged to speak to children and teenagers about the dangers of cooling off in rivers, reservoirs, lakes, etc.
