We're feeling an Olympic theme here at 196 (Walsall) Sqn... over the course of the last 10 days we have seen two of our cadet sergeants gain Silver and Gold in First Aid qualifications.

Last weekend, Sgt G represented 196 Air Cadets on an Activity First Aid (AFA) course🥈

And during the half term break, Sgt W has spent the week embedding First Aid Skills, refreshing knowledge and learning how to teach this essential life skill to other cadets as part of a residential Gold First Aid course. 🥇

We’re absolutely delighted to share that they passed with flying colours!
Very well done to both of you. We are so proud of your achievements.

One of our cadets has joined with a team from across the Staffordshire Wing Air Cadets to complete practice sessions for The 42nd Annual Chase Walk!

The Chase Walk is a 38.2 mile competitive walk for teams from various organisations, and is organised by the Nationwide Scout Communications. This year, the event takes place on the 14th March.

Cpl C snagged a Blue Road Marching badge as a result of these practice sessions and had a great time meeting cadets from other squadrons while enjoying the beautiful scenery that Cannock Chase has to offer.

Today, cadets and staff from 196 (Walsall) Squadron attended a service, led by our squadron chaplain, Deacon Helen Webster. The service was to celebrate 85 years of the Air Training Corps/RAFAC and focused on the significance of bringing light to the world and the importance of our core values of Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellent (RISE).

Thank you to St John's Methodist Church in Bloxwich for hosting us, and to Helen for a creative and inspiring service, as always.

Today our unit is proud to join squadrons across the country in celebrating 85 years of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC).

Since 1941, RAFAC has given young people opportunities to develop confidence, leadership, and teamwork through aviation, training, and community service. At unit level, these values are brought to life every week — through parade nights, camps, courses, volunteering, and the shared experiences that help shape our cadets into confident and capable young people.

ATC Sunday gives us the chance to reflect on the support of our local community and to thank our volunteers, staff, parents, and supporters who make everything we do possible. Most importantly, we recognise the commitment and effort of our cadets, who continue to represent our unit and the wider RAFAC with pride.

As we celebrate this important milestone, we look forward to continuing our journey together — building skills, friendships, and opportunities for the future.

Just dropping in to say thank you!
Thank you to our cadets and their families, our Civilian Committee and last, but not least, the staff who make it all happen.

2025 has been a busy year at 196 Squadron. Cadets have attended camps and air shows, sector and wing training. Cadets have been gliding, flying and shooting. They have attended museum trips and completed D of E expeditions, and a whole lot more!

And we just want to say thank you to everyone who helps to make these events happen.

Wishing you all a lovely Christmas and a very happy New Year.

So incredibly proud of all the cadets and staff from 196 (Walsall) Squadron, who turned out today to pay their respects to service personnel who have lived through, or died in, conflicts throughout the 20th and 21st century, and those who are currently serving. They're a credit to the squadron and the corps and they should all be very proud of themselves.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
