We had an incredible day at our Rooted in Windrush event.

From inspiring talks and powerful storytelling to creative activities, cultural performances, and meaningful conversations, we came together to honour the legacy of the Windrush Generation and celebrate the communities they helped build.

It was wonderful to see people of all ages learning, sharing memories, making connections, and engaging with the stories that continue to shape our history and future.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, performed, exhibited, and supported the event. Your presence helped make the day truly special.

The stories of the Windrush Generation are not just history, they are living legacies that continue to inspire future generations.

As part of Rooted In Windrush, we’re inviting members of our community to share the story behind a dish that connects you to your heritage, family or migration journey.

Is there a recipe passed down through generations?
A Sunday dish that reminds you of home?
A flavour that travelled with your family to Britain?

This is not about being the “best” cook- it’s about celebrating culture, memory and identity through food.

Selected stories will be featured at our event, with tasting samples inspired by the submissions prepared by our caterer.

Today, Make More launches Rooted in Windrush -a four-week campaign shining a light on the ongoing impact of the Windrush scandal and supporting those still affected.
Thousands of people from across the Commonwealth continue to face uncertainty, loss, and emotional trauma caused by wrongful immigration decisions. This is not history - it’s happening now.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing:
• Real stories from people affected
• Facts you might not know
• Signposting to support services
• Community conversations and information sessions

Make More has partnered with WVCA to deliver a REN project that explores how people in the Black Country really feel about healthcare. To share your opinion or story send us a message or come along to our event on Thursday 12th February and receive a £5 voucher for participation.
