🚨The Chris Lucas Trust is set to receive North Tyneside’s highest civic honour, the Freedom of the Borough, in recognition of its long-standing work raising funds for cancer research.

Founded more than 25 years ago after the death of 18-year-old Chris Lucas from a rare cancer, the charity has raised over £2.5 million to support research into rhabdomyosarcoma.

The trust works with leading institutions including The Institute of Cancer Research and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, and runs popular fundraising events like the Great North Bike Ride and Jingle Bell Walk.

Chris’s parents were awarded MBEs last year for their efforts, and the trust is now expected to be formally honoured following a council vote on May 21.

On International Cancer Day (15th February), we’re using this important day to highlight and share the work we do at Chris Lucas Trust in partnership with The Institute of Cancer Research.

We proudly support the Sarcoma Molecular Pathology Group led by Professor Janet Shipley, funding groundbreaking research into paediatric sarcomas, especially the rare and aggressive cancer rhabdomyosarcoma.

With over £2 million invested in research, our work is helping to:

• Understand how sarcomas develop and progress• Create advanced 3D cancer models to test new treatments• Improve early detection through blood tests• Discover new drug targets and kinder therapies for young patients

On International Cancer Day, we’re proud to raise awareness, support life-saving research, and continue working towards a future with better outcomes for children and families affected by cancer.
