Tell us about the barriers you face in your everyday life 🚫

The Unfair Index: Designing a fairer future, launches today.

We need disabled people and unpaid carers of disabled children, young people and adults in the UK to share their real experiences with us, so we can understand where better design is most needed: https://bit.ly/TheUnfairIndex

When we say ‘disabled people’, we include neurodivergent people (for example, autistic, ADHD, dyslexic), people with mental health conditions, chronic illness, learning disabilities, sensory and physical impairments.

We want to hear from all of you.

The world is full of barriers for disabled people, because society isn't designed with everyone in mind. Those barriers can take away things that everyone deserves - freedom, confidence, opportunity.

But it doesn't have to be that way. Not if we design and build differently.

Together with our Lived Experience Advisors, we have designed our largest piece of research ever. Now we need you.

🚨 Right now, the government is working on future Personal Independence Payment (PIP) reform. This work is known as the Timms Review.

And now it wants to know what disabled people think.

It is collecting evidence on how effective PIP is and whether the assessment provides fair access to the right support. As well as our experiences of claiming PIP, and whether the experience changes between different groups of people.

📣 This is a crucial opportunity to make our voices heard loud and clear. Because disabled people deserve a welfare system that is not confrontational. And is built with them.

It’s vital that the government understands the impact that PIP has for the disabled people that claim it. And where it isn't working.

PIP exists because life costs more if you are disabled. And this needs to be at the heart of any decision making.

But we must be clear: the government must not use this review to fit in predetermined decisions or spending plans.

✍ Respond to the call for evidence by 28 May 🔗 https://www.gov.uk/government/news/call-for-public-views-to-improve-disability-benefit-for-millions

Just a little FYI, Please keep this area clear from parked vehicles as it is the only accessible approach to St. Mary-le-More church and the Town Hall on this side of town. A lot of people will say thank you!!
