The Mill Brook remains in a poor state as many of you who pass by may have observed. However, the restoration group is actively engaged in investigations and building relationships with Thames Water and EA to pinpoint the source of the pollution entering the brook.

After months of intense investigation by our small group of volunteers,we believe we’ve established the causes of our once thriving Mill Brook’s current sorry state. One major factor is pollution .We’re alerting the local residents to the presence of sewage fungus. Water samples show episodic high levels of E. coli and BOD. The reported pollution has been dismissed for years but we’ve finally got EA involved. Thames water insists there’s no issue .If you’re concerned like we are, please report to EA and Thameswater. Help to raise awareness for the Mill brook

Welcome! Wallingford Mill Brook holds great historical significance in Wallingford. Once it supplied water to the castle’s moats and Saxon embankments, fed the mills and breweries and provided a public water supply. Many Wallingfordians fondly recall childhood paddling, fishing and enjoying the brook. However, fast forward to 2026 and the story is quite different. The brook is now polluted, blocked and lifeless. For months (some of us years), a small group of volunteers has been tirelessly working to uncover the reasons behind its horrific state and we’re finally making progress! The reversal and culverting in the 1970s, the construction of the bypass in the 1990s and further work in the 2000s have all impacted the brook .Given the public interest in our project, we’ve created this group to keep you all updated on our progress and gain further support. Working with support from Wild about Wallingford ,Wallingford Town Council and Environment Agency and we hope to gain help from Thames Water. Follow us for updates and photos !
