IMPORTANT WALKNTALK ANNOUNCEMENT
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, our plans to use The Studio have been cancelled.
However, I also want to take this opportunity to address something that has recently been brought to our attention.
We have heard some deeply disappointing comments regarding children being present at WalknTalk, particularly comments involving my own daughter.
So I want to make something absolutely clear.
WalknTalk is about inclusion, not exclusion.
We are here to support men, women, parents, families and young people. That has always been part of our vision, and it always will be.
One of the reasons we wanted to introduce The Studio was to make our support more accessible to parents who struggle to attend meetings because of childcare commitments.
Imagine being a single parent, struggling with your mental health, desperately needing someone to talk to, but being unable to access support simply because you have children.
That is exactly the kind of barrier WalknTalk wants to break down.
I fully appreciate that not everyone will feel comfortable in an environment where children may be present, and I respect that. We are more than happy to recommend alternative adult-only support groups that may better suit someone’s needs.
But what we will not do is change our values or exclude families simply to accommodate the preferences of a few individuals.
We will always put appropriate safeguarding arrangements in place, and we expect everyone attending our activities to show respect towards one another, including our younger visitors.
As the founder of WalknTalk and as a father, I find it particularly disappointing that children, including my own daughter, have become the subject of negative comments.
Children should never be made to feel that they are unwelcome or that their presence is a problem.
We are incredibly proud of the inclusive community we are building. We want to challenge the barriers that prevent people from accessing mental health and wellbeing support, not create new ones.
WalknTalk will always stand for kindness, respect, understanding and inclusion.
We are not going to compromise those values.
Everyone deserves somewhere to feel welcome, supported and accepted.
