Another Busy Sunday at Wakefield Community Fridge!

Yesterday we were delighted to serve 85 members of our community, helping to ensure good food continues to reach those who need it most.

A huge thank you goes out to our incredible volunteers who once again sacrificed their Sunday morning lie-in to support the community. Your dedication, kindness, and hard work make such a difference every single week.

Special mention to Abdul, who managed to collect a generously packed bootful of food donations from Lidl, helping us keep our shelves stocked and reducing food waste at the same time.

And after another busy shift, Shab finally got to enjoy a well-deserved cup of tea at the end of the morning!

Every donation collected, every item sorted and every person welcomed through our doors shows what can be achieved when a community comes together.

Thank you to everyone who supports Wakefield Community Fridge. Together, we're making a positive difference. Here's to continuing to help, support and strengthen our community!

A Huge Thank You!

Wakefield Community Fridge would like to say a massive thank you to Shell from Unity Hall for their incredibly generous donation of around 130 pre-packed sandwiches, crisps, fruit and bottles of water.

These items were left over from a recent event and rather than seeing perfectly good food go to waste, Shell contacted Wakefield Community Fridge to see if we could make use of them. We were delighted to collect the donation and the food will now be shared through the Fridge with members of our community who can benefit from it.

This is a wonderful example of how working together can reduce food waste while helping local people. Every item saved from landfill makes a difference, and every act of kindness helps strengthen our community.

Thank you again, Shell and everyone at Unity Hall, for thinking of us and helping us turn surplus food into something positive.

Together, we can reduce waste, support one another, and make a real difference in Wakefield—one donation at a time.

A huge thank you to Virgin Bank Wakefield for their incredibly generous donation to Wakefield Community Fridge!

Support like this makes a real difference, helping us continue to provide access to good food and support local people who may be facing difficult times.

Tackling poverty and food insecurity is something that requires all of us to work together. When businesses, community groups, volunteers and residents join forces, we can create a stronger, more caring community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you again to the team at Virgin Bank Wakefield for standing with us and supporting our mission. Together, we can make a positive difference for local families and individuals across Wakefield.

May was another incredible month at Wakefield Community Fridge!

Thanks to the amazing support of our volunteers, partners and visitors, during May we:

- Served 667 people
- Distributed 10,005 food items

We're also celebrating a major milestone as we've now been open for 6 months!

Since opening in December 2025, together we've:
- Welcomed 2,971 visitors
- Distributed an incredible 39,530 food items
- Grown our monthly visitor numbers from 255 in December to 667 in May — an increase of 162%

These numbers represent so much more than food. They reflect a community coming together to support one another, reduce food waste, and make good food accessible to everyone.

Every visit, every donation, every volunteer shift, and every partnership has helped make this possible. We are incredibly proud of what we've achieved together in just six months and excited to see what the future holds.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported Wakefield Community Fridge so far. Your kindness, commitment, and community spirit are making a real difference every single day.

Here's to the next six months and beyond!

We were blown away by an impressive van load of food donations from Wakefield Street Kitchen - a huge variety of items that will go a long way in supporting our community.

We’d also like to say a massive thank you to St Catherine's Church for their generous donation of fresh bread, essential items, and plenty of onions too!

With the lovely warm weather continuing, we hope everyone is enjoying a bit of sunshine while looking out for one another ☀️

Thanks to the amazing generosity of shoppers, we collected a huge amount of food to help support local people and families in our community. Every donation, big or small, will make a real difference.
