💚 More than food — building connections and moving forward
Today’s session was absolutely buzzing, with another fantastic turnout at Wakefield Community Fridge.
We introduced two new additions today: our registration point at the entrance and our new tea and coffee table. Both worked brilliantly.
The tea and coffee table quickly became a place for people to pause, enjoy a drink and a lovely piece of donated caramel shortbread, and—most importantly—stay for a chat. The shortbread was kindly provided as part of a donation from one of our regular corporate supporters. 💚
Those conversations matter. Atif had the opportunity to speak with several people and learn more about their circumstances, the support they may need and the progress they are making. It was especially encouraging to hear that some are moving towards employment and may, in time, no longer need to use our service. That is exactly the kind of positive outcome we want to see.
A huge shout-out must also go to Mike, one of our service users, who stepped forward to run the tea and coffee table and did a fantastic job! 👏
Mike is actively looking for work, and opportunities like this allow him to demonstrate his initiative, reliability and people skills while gaining valuable experience for his CV. He brought such positive energy to the session, and everybody thoroughly enjoyed it.
Today was a lovely reminder that Wakefield Community Fridge is about more than the food people take home. It is about listening, building confidence, creating opportunities and helping people take their next step forward.
