Volunteers’ Week 2026

Behind every successful Squadron stands a dedicated team of Cadet Force Adult Volunteers who give their time, energy and expertise to ensure every Cadet can experience the very best of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

From planning activities to completing paperwork, risk assessments and everything in between, our staff team volunteer countless hours to help each activity take flight.

This week, we want to say a huge thank you to our incredible Squadron Staff. Your commitment makes everything we do possible.

A special shout‑out to our Civilian Committee — your support is invaluable and deeply appreciated.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service Visit!

At the very start of May, our cadets had the fantastic opportunity to welcome Katie, a paramedic from the local Yorkshire Ambulance Service unit.

Katie delivered an insightful and engaging presentation, giving our cadets a real look into the service, the realities of frontline work, and the different career pathways within the ambulance service. To round off the evening, cadets even refreshed their basic life‑saving skills — a brilliant hands‑on way to reinforce vital knowledge.

A huge thank you to Katie and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service for taking the time to visit and inspire our young people. Your support is truly appreciated.

Classification Success!

A huge congratulations to Sgt Ward, who has successfully achieved Master Cadet, and to Cpl Miller, who has earned their Senior Cadet classification.

Reaching each stage of the RAFAC Classification System requires real dedication. Cadets must complete a series of structured lessons before attempting their exams — with three exams needed at every level to progress. It’s a demanding journey that tests knowledge, consistency, and commitment.

Both cadets have shown impressive determination and effort throughout their training, and their achievements reflect the hard work they’ve put in over recent months.

Fantastic work all round — well done to you both!

Senior NCO Promotions Announcement

We are proud to share the fantastic news that four members of our Cadet NCO Team have now progressed into the Senior Non‑Commissioned Officer cadre. Please join us in celebrating the achievements of:

• FS Kurukulage
• Sgt Thickett
• Sgt Varley
• Sgt Brannan

Each of these cadets has earned their promotion through unwavering commitment, consistently high standards, and conduct befitting a RAFAC Senior NCO. Their leadership, professionalism, and readiness to step up in support of the Squadron have been evident over a sustained period.

This advancement is a testament not only to their individual drive and determination, but also to the positive example they set for others across the organisation. They now move forward as key leaders within Team 127, helping shape the next generation of cadets.

A huge well‑done to all four on this thoroughly deserved milestone.

🔥 Outstanding performance from our Athletics Team!

This weekend, 11 of our cadets took on the Annual Inter‑Squadron Athletics event, led brilliantly by Team Captain Sgt Ward — and they absolutely smashed it.

Not only did they secure 1st Place in the Junior Boys category, but they also brought home 10 medals across track and field.

🥇 Medal Highlights:

• CDT Grant — Gold 400m, Bronze High Jump
• Sgt Ward — Gold Long Jump, Silver Javelin
• FS Kurukulage — Silver Shotput
• Cpl Sanyang — Silver Javelin, Bronze 200m
• CDT Parkinson — Silver 200m, Silver High Jump, Bronze Long Jump

A phenomenal effort from the whole team. Well done, everyone — your hard work and determination truly paid off.

A proud evening for 127 Squadron

This Thursday, our latest group of recruits graduated after completing an intensive nine‑month training programme.

In a ceremony attended by parents, staff and fellow cadets, each recruit took the Air Cadet Promise, led by Padre Komorowski, and received their First Class Cadet certificate and badge from Sqn Ldr Swaine.

Their journey has involved continuous assessment — from motivation and attendance to uniform standards and overall deportment. We are thrilled to congratulate Cadet Gayner, who was awarded Best New Recruit for this intake.

Reflecting on the evening, Pilot Officer Webley, Squadron Training Officer, said: “Tonight was the pinnacle of their recruit training. It was fantastic to see everyone’s hard work, dedication and commitment pay off.”

A huge well done to all our new First Class Cadets — we’re excited to see what you achieve next.

Goodbye and good luck FS Whiteman.

This week, we said a heartfelt goodbye to FS Whiteman, who has now aged out of the Air Training Corps after turning 20. His cadet career has been nothing short of remarkable — 6 years, 8 months and 7 days of dedication, leadership and outstanding achievement.

During his time at 127 Squadron, FS Whiteman embraced every opportunity that came his way. Reflecting on his journey, he shared:

“The opportunities this organisation gives to the cadets is phenomenal, and I have learnt so much from my time as a Cadet at 127 Squadron.”

From completing BTECs, earning his Method of Instruction qualification and his Silver DofE, to proudly earning his ‘C’ Wings, FS Whiteman has set the standard for what commitment and enthusiasm look like in the RAF Air Cadets.

Though we’re sad to see him leave as a cadet, we’re thrilled that he isn’t going far. Now known as CI Whiteman, he begins the next chapter of his RAFAC journey as a Civilian Instructor at 208 Squadron.

We wish him every success in his new role and thank him for everything he has contributed to 127 Squadron. Once a cadet, always part of the family.

Well done, and good luck, CI Whiteman!

Congratulations to our Silver DofE teams!

During April, two teams of cadets completed their Silver DofE practice expedition right here in the local area.

The weekend tested their navigation, teamwork, cooking, and resilience — but they rose to the challenge, drawing on their Bronze experience and the training delivered during parade nights. Even with the unpredictable weather, their enthusiasm never dipped.

We’re thrilled to share that every cadet passed their practice expedition, and they’re now looking ahead to their Silver expedition.

A huge thank you to the Staff team, who gave up their weekend to facilitate the expedition.

A brilliant effort from all involved — well done!
