Aphasia Support

Aphasia Support Our mission is to improve the wellbeing of people with Aphasia and their carers by providing tailored speech and language therapy and long-term support.

Registered Charity No. 1143106 We are a non profit making charitable organisation currently operating in the North of England alongside organisations and individuals who deal with communication problems caused by Aphasia. We were formed to raise awareness of a devastating condition called Aphasia which often occurs when people have had a stroke or brain injury, damaging the communications centre o

f the brain and affecting speech and the ability to communicate with others. We aim to supplement the work of speech and language therapists and other stroke charities. We work with patients and support them after speech therapy has come to an end, helping them to regain or improve their speech and confidence.

When Bob was diagnosed with aphasia, life as he knew it changed. As a former helicopter pilot in the Navy, Bob enjoyed a lifetime of travel. He loved nothing more than to make new friends and share stories of his adventures along the way.

After Bob's stoke, his ability to communicate was suddenly taken away. In the early days,
Bob and his wife Edie were faced with a confusing and overwhelming reality - trying to make sense of a condition they had never heard of, while adjusting to a new way of living day to day.

โ€œWe got in touch with Aphasia Support, and everything changed from there.โ€

By attending their local support group, Bob and Edie began to rebuild confidence and connection, rediscovering ways to share everyday moments together.

โ€œWe feel like weโ€™ve hit the jackpot with Aphasia Support. Itโ€™s the equivalent of winning a million pounds because itโ€™s given us the opportunity to learn. Itโ€™s connection. Itโ€™s understanding. Itโ€™s life again.โ€

May is ๐Ÿ’œ

Every year, we come together to educate and advocate for the 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK. With 1 in 3 stroke survivors experiencing aphasia, improving understanding and access to the right support is more important than ever.

The All Things Stroke website is helping people navigate life after stroke by connecting them with trusted advice, local services, and practical resources all in one place. Built with lived experience at its core, it supports survivors, carers, and professionals at every stage of recovery.
