The heatwave we had this week has got a lot of people saying, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!”

But those who lived through 1976 might have a different view. The summer of 1976 brought weeks of intense heat, drought conditions, hosepipe bans, dried-up reservoirs and packed beaches across Britain. Temperatures regularly pushed into the 30s, and for many people it remains the benchmark for British summers.

Of course, every heatwave feels different depending on where you are and how prepared we are for it, but 1976 still gets mentioned nearly 50 years later for a reason.

Those of you who remember 1976… was it really hotter, or do we just remember it differently?

Things to remember

No swimming
There are no SWIMMING ALLOWED signs around the park
The staff do patrol the water and you will be asked to leave,
Many people paddle but please be aware of the risks
The water is for the pedalos and wildlife
With hopefully new watersports to be added at some later dates,

Lets enjoy the park and sand safely

We're all a flutter. Are you?

📝 Various members of the Buglife team have taken Butterfly Conservation's "Which butterfly are you?" quiz, so we thought we'd share the results and which butterflies we've voted for as a result.

🦋 Our Comms Team have come up speckled; Speckled Wood that is, and the vibes this fluttering wonder gives off aren't a bad match for the small team at all!

⛱️ The Speckled Wood (Pararge aegeria) is widespread across most of the UK; thriving wherever there is a mix of sunlight and shadow.

🌳 Often seen drifting through shaded glades, tree edges, gardens and basking in sunshine, they may be understated in their calming, dappled woodland colours, but don't be fooled.

☠️ Highly territorial, feisty, weather resistant and battle hardened the Speckled Wood is the ultimate mimic; never too far from the edge of battle, but also willing to play dead for a bit of peace and quiet 😅

Can we remind people when using the pedalos

Life jackets must be worn at all times

They must be fastened correctly

If anyone unfastens or takes their jackets off while on the pedalos they will be asked to vacate them,

We have had problems with children unfastening their life jackets while on the pedalos
This is extremely dangerous to do
Lets be reminded that 11 children and adults have died this hot spell through open water
We would like you to fun safely,

Would first like to commend the staff and their swift actions to a medical emergency, the young girl in question, is now safe in hospital, getting the treatment she needs

(Just to state it was nothing to do with the lakes, pure medical emergency)

Secondly to say that if the weather is as warm tomorrow as today the slide and the bouncing pillow will again have to close, they are becoming too hot in the sun and the risks of children being burnt on them is extremely high, the staff will monitor the situation, lets hope the weather is a little cooler tomorrow

But everything else will be open as usual and the fun doesnt stop,

Has there been a pair of trainers found today my sons have been stolen out his friends fishing tent
