🎉 WE DID IT! 🏆 🍃
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Appletree Community Garden has officially been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for 2026! That's 3 years in a row 🥳

This international quality mark recognises the absolute best parks and green spaces in the world, and it comes at a massive milestone as the award celebrates its 30th year.

The competition was tougher than ever this year. We are incredibly proud to be one of just 488 community groups recognised throughout the entire country, and one of only 20 Community Awards given across Yorkshire and the Humber! 📍✨

This award is a huge testament to the hard work, pure passion, and endless dedication of our incredible team and volunteers who care for this space.

As Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said green spaces are "a practical, preventative solution and one of the most visible ways to improve people’s quality of life." We couldn't agree more!

Did you know there's a Home Education Social Meet & Gardening Group at Appletree Community Garden?

The group was set up by home educating parents to fill the gap for children’s socialising, allowing a friendship circle of multiple ages and being free to explore as much or as little as they like, under parental supervision.

There’s been lots of activity on the Permaculture course being run at Appletree Community Garden, who are now coming to the end of their year-long course.

Earlier in June they had 4 different groups working on permaculture designs for different areas of the garden.

Some of the functions will:

• attract habitats for wildlife
• create biodiversity
• provide edible plants
• create spaces for wellbeing
• educate about the benefits of plants
• benefit all visitors and the community

The course ends next month, then the exciting practical part begins!

Their next event will be at the Trinity Stadium on 16th July.
