🎉 We're very happy to announce this year's design for "Postcards from Wakefield", now in it's 8th year through the Positive Mental Health Network, to coincide with next week's Mental Health Awareness Week.

The design was created by Castleford artist Matt Ward thisartscene.com and reflects how our mining heritage has been transformed into nature parks in many places, where we now go to take care of our mental health and wellbeing. Contact us if you would like a supply (email below)

✉️ Are you a local group or organisation who would like some Postcards? Here's our form: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/XkfgimkxQs

A big Thank You to everyone who submitted a design idea for our 8th year of "Postcards from Wakefield" launching to coincide with next week's Mental Health Awareness Week - we had the largest amount of applications to date! Stay tuned for the final winner...

We know getting your work seen isn't easy and every little helps, so we wanted to share the social accounts of the artists who took the time to send in a submission to show our appreciation, and while not everyone responded, thank you to the artists below who did:

🌍 Join us tomorrow for Earth Day activities and celebrations at Appletree Community Garden, Wakefield - drop in between 11am to 2pm 🌱

As well as arts and crafts, seed planting and permaculture, we’ll have all of our 'Fryston Times' posters up, sharing real stories and photographs from the 'pit village' built for Fryston Colliery's workers and families. They lived where they worked, grew food on allotments and helped their neighbours, making the best from their small community - this included looking after people's welfare right there in the village where they took it upon themselves to build their own "Miner's Welfare" building.

That same spirit is what places like Appletree are about today. Keeping green spaces going, growing food, being open to everyone and supporting each other when times get tough.

Pop down and take part in our Earth Day activities; you're invited to be part of our small community.
