Friends of Newmillerdam Country Park

Friends of Newmillerdam Country Park The Friends are a voluntary group that works with Wakefield Council to help improve access and to enhance this popular West Yorkshire country park.

Newmillerdam Country Park is located 3.5 miles south of Wakefield, on the A61 (Barnsley Road), and features a central lake surrounded by a surfaced path with surrounding broadleaved and coniferous woodland located on the slopes. The Friends of Newmillerdam Country Park are a voluntary group formed in 2009 at the request of Wakefield Council and share the Council’s strategic aim of -

Improving the

intrinsic quality of the country park:

Improving access and enriching visitor experiences for all users:

Supporting new amenities and activities to improve the physical, social and mental well-being of the community and park users:

Increasing awareness of what the park has to offer (by the provision of better information, wider promotion, effective communication and marketing).

The Friends of Newmillerdam in partnership with Wakefield Parks and Countryside, are pleased to welcome Hazel the Fox 🦊. Our first of 8 Woodland Creature Carvings. Look out for the rest over the coming months as they are steadily installed around the park.

Big shout out and thanks to Andy, one of our volunteers who has been waging war on the invasive Balsam. Baslam grows quickly, blocking out the light which our native Flora need, and spreads rapidly. Its great to see these areas being reclaimed.
